I spent a couple days down in north Texas last week chasing hogs. You wouldn't think a person would drive 15 hours, walk 25 miles, freeze in the morning and at night, would be itching to do it again but I am!!

The first place we walked out, Mike got the only hog. I shot at a couple, had a gun malfunction, and had close to a dozen hogs run right by me.

The next place we walked out we shot a couple more sows.

and some 20 pounders

I shot 5 of the 20 pound ones with my 357 mag. The pigs laying on this sow are right at 20 pounds. This was 1 BIG sow!!

For the most part, we just took the hams and back strap.

so... what do they taste like, and don't say chicken

All I can tell you is they STINK. I didn't bring any meat home. The rest of the guys are from about 220 miles south east of me, and I let them have all the meat so they can do a big game feed. I will tell you here in a couple months what it tastes like. I know they had quite a layer of back fat on them, which kinda surprised me. I didn't think they would be that fat, nor that hairy, nor STINK that bad. Did I mention they stink? and to think of those pretty gals on "Hog Hunters" wrestling hogs.... there is no WAY I would ever get close to them gals.....

A piece of meat off of a "Stinkin" boar can ruin a cast iron skillet.

Better NOT try to eat an egg fried in the fat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe that's why Jerry Campbell's hawg sausage is so bad that even his hawg dawgs won't eat it.

I think that Leah that helps them would clean up OK and smell good after a scrubbin', but not the daughter, Krystle Pistol!

I had the first one I killed officially butchered. Wasn't something I did again. The sausage was fine, the pork chops were a little tough. Didn't taste horrible, but was sure nothing to write home about. I would beat starving for sure.

I would make sure the meat is adequately cooked. Pork isn't like beef, because you can pick up a parasite from undercooked pork.

Lazywp, if you wait a bit, it won't be long until you won't have to drive out of your county. First one's we saw were in 1994. Since then, a river place I hunt has had over a couple houndred shot on it alone.

them guys talk about "that's a two hundred dollar hog, etc"---anybody know what they do with them?

I heard it mentioned several times on the show that the hawgs were slaughtered and processed and the meat given to homeless shelters. Dunno if that's the case or not.

Jerry Campbell oughta get his gold front tooth inlay removed and use the proceeds to buy himself a new hat and a new pair of boots, too. The ones he sports on the show appear to both be 60+ years old.....
