The wife, kids and I spread a little Christmas cheer today. She cut up a bunch of our pepperoni, jerky, cheese, pickles and such, and we made up some trays. We toured town visiting a little here and there, dropping off the "munchie platters" wherever we went. The last place we stopped was the wife's former place of employment, and all of the guys were done for the day. THey had already gathered in the lunch room and were well on their way to mixing some Christmas Spirits.

We had alot of fun, food and drinks, but something buzzed in the back of my mind the whole time. One gal must have been reading my mind, because she started talking about how much fun people have this time of year, so many gatherings, reunions and parties. She went on and on about how the season just seems to bring out the best in people. Then she asked, "Why don't we all act this way year 'round?" There it was, she had her ESPN turned on and read my mind 100%. Without missing a beat I said, "You." Everybody looked at me cross-eyed, but I added that the only thing keeping us all from being in this festive spirit ALL YEAR ROUND, where we seem to be able to find all this extra time for family, friends, the elderly, the young, total strangers, charities and so on, is our own attitudes. I can think of absolutely no other reason or excuse that holds water.

So, I wish all of you the very best this Christmas season, and I also hope that this little revelation I had today sticks with you. And come January 1st when you start to think of putting away the decorations for another year, remember to keep the smile and spirit that warmed your heart all through the month of December. And why not? It'll make the rest of winter so much more fun.

Good night all.

Good thinking PC, thanks for pointing that out. I'll try to keep those thoughts in mind in the upcoming year. 'Course, I'm nearly allways a little too willing to shut things down for a b.s. over a Crown and Coke

Merry Christmas and best of the hollidays to all!

Thank you, Pure Country. That was a nice message that we all need to take to heart. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Merry Christmas to you and your family, and to everyone else on Ranchers Dot Net. :-)

I just got an email from my wife - seems she is continuing the tradition of giving one beef away - even though she is on her own.

We always visit a few folks in the small village that is close by and do this in December.

One steer hits the ground and gets cut up - then it goes into the back of the truck and we deliver to about 10 families who have very little but do some work for us every now and then - even more so this year as I am away.

We call it their Christmas bonus - makes it a bit easier for them to take the freebie.

She told me it went over very well this year as most folks are having a tougher time than usual.
