Horse processing in Nebraska takes a step closer

When you have to lock your gates to keep people from droping off horses it means there is a problem!

Two years ago here in Indiana the state parks were getting over run with horses as people would come to horse back ride in the park and when they were done they would load everything but the horses and leave.

Now all horses are counted as you go in and counted again as you leave. The state of Indiana found itself the proud owner of about 10,000 new horses. Most of them were saddle broke but the cost of hay went thru the roof and we were in a drought so the sale barns were charging $100.00 to drop of a hourse. If it sold you would be paid what it brough minus the sales commission ( 25% ) so if it brought $125.00 or more you got your money back plus but if it did not sell the sale barn kept the $100.00 and shipped the horse on.

Is horse slaughter good ? I think it is a needed part of the industry. Not every horse needs to go to slaughter but not every horse needs to be kept. They are not democrats and cannot vote so they need to be productive or disposed of!

I'm afraid that's not going to be much help. :?
If they can't ship meat overseas they won't be able to compete for slaughter horses. Zoo's and dog food plants can't pay enough.
