Hot spot @ burnt's place.

I feel for ya burnt, we had a fire in a shop due to a trailer of alfalfa that heated over night about 15 yrs ago. Dad and I were really beat from putting several loads in the barn and I talked him into just parking the last one in the shop for the night. We backed it in the shed and pulled the door down and called it a day. I awoke to HEY THE SHOP IS ON FIRE!!!!!!!!!!! at about 7:00 am the next day. We were lucky the shed is all metal and the fire was more of a smoldering hot mess than a blazing fire so with some quick action of ripping the roll up door off with the tractor and dragging the burning trailer out we saved alot of stuff. There was a lot of damage but I still felt lucky it wasn't worse. I learned alot about my insurance and just hope I never have another incident like that again. Wish ya the best as it is sure a sick feeling when something like that happens...
 
Well we got through a rough weekend weather-wise and the girls are glad it's behind them. Yesterday was the worst of 3 very cold, stormy days with strong west winds that wanted to drive the snow through, rather than around, a body.

The remaining 10' high barnyard fence was scorched but not burned, so yesterday I let the cows back into the yard since we had cleaned up the debris in that area beforehand. That gave them a fairly substantial shelter from the biting west wind and they were very glad to make use of it. I just got in from spreading a big bale of straw for them in which they can "recline". They seemed downright grateful.

Imagine that - giving the cows straw to SLEEP on rather than eating it! I think they are getting better attention than they would have had the fire never happened! Well at least it makes me feel like I've done what I can to make their lives a little better in this nasty winter weather. Only December and 6 weeks of winter already . . . oh fair month of May, where art thou?
 
Thanks for the update, burnt. Sounds like you are doing all that can be done with the present weather conditions. Just keep on keeping on, one day at a time. May will be here before we know it. :-)
