We've gotten about 1.8" since May 16th, but rainfall amounts have been all over the board in this area.

we've received 1.3 from this system so far, more rain predicted for all day today and tonight. our total from the last 2 weeks is about 4.5".

Last Sat, Sun, Mon we had 1.5". Since last night @ around 5 pm we've had 2.1". Supposed to rain all day, then again on Monday...

We got .27 last night. 
I am happier than a gopher in soft dirt. Plus, a guy called this morning with an offer to lease some more decent grazing ground to me. It was even in my price range, so i snapped it up. Mrs. leanin' H must be living right.

A low of 38 degrees here last night too. I couldn't believe it got that cool.
According to my rain gauge and my record keeping we had about 6.25" of rain in the month of May here. Our normal or average, whichever it is, for the month of May is 3.35". I thought May was cooler then normal this year but according to my figures it was 2 degrees above average.
I am no longer participating in ranching so really haven't been out to look at pastures, but it looks like the cool season grasses have made a tremendous growth since the rains started. I see a few clumps of Needle and thread here on the farmstead that haven't been there before, and the tame wheat grasses are really showing their stuff. Seems to me that after a drought there is a little built up or unused fertility that can set things off again. Some of the old timers here have told that 1934 was one of the worst dry years, but in 1935 there was a record hay crop in some places.

Ended May with over 7 inches of rain, some parts of Iowa had their wettest May on record.

We have had at least 9" since the rain started about the 17th of May.
It has rained and rained every day til yesterday and it was a beautiful day;
same today. We have 60% chance of thunderstorms again tomorrow.
The grass in the yard and around the buildings has really gotten ahead of us.
But it's green, green, green. We are lovin' it. Our little creek was
up to the top of the bridge. I took a picture but it was a day later so had
gone down some.
It's so much fun reading this thread when so many are getting badly
needed moisture. Yet we feel so sad for those in Oklahoma with all the
tornadoes. Our friends there said there is a lot of devastation in rural areas too,
but the concentrated areas get the news coverage.
Besides the damage to people and homes, she said they had to put
over 200 horses down near Moore, OK after that big tornado.
Some OK folks were interviewed on tv that said they were leaving OK and
never coming back. :?

That's fantastic FH! I know you've been dry down there for a long time.
It sure is nice reading this thread and seeing that folks are getting some much needed moisture in meaningful amounts. Hopefully those that haven't seen rain yet will soon.
We managed about 2" in the last few days, making our total since May 1st at just over 2.5". It's a fantastic start. 3 or 4 more inches spaced out half decently over the rest of the summer would make for a fantastic year.

We received a total of 3 inches last week... Now after a dry weekend it is raining again- and the weatherfolks say we can expect to get around 2 inches out of this one...
Definitely nice weather for a duck...
8AM- checked gauge and we have 1.25 for the night...Still saying north of the Missouri could pick up an inch or two during the day...

We got some fair rains over the past ten days or so. At about 4" for the year on moisture. Snows seemed quite wet, but went straight down, which is good, too.
Had a branding half rained out last Friday. Finishing that and another today, if the rain holds off. Looks like it might. More tomorrow, if there is NO rain, as there is no gravel on road to that pasture.
The grass is already better than all of last year, so that's a real Blessing. Sure hope it continues as trees are just getting leafed out decently. Wild fruit bloomed a couple weeks ago and didn't get frozen, for a wonder!
Has been quite cool, so things are growing like crazy with the little moisture we have had. Hot winds, when they come, will probably end that! But, so far so good, and attitudes are much happier!
Guess I'll go see what is happening at the branding, since I got 'promoted' from cooking for them this year. And I am ready for that, at least for this year. If I get some 'bionic' joints and spine repairs, maybe I'll be ready for another go at it next year.
Just think, less than three weeks to SUMMER! Spring is my favorite, so will enjoy it while it lasts.

Heres the Milk River Bridge on my road to town...Already flooding out in the trees on the one side... Weather folks are predicting the river to be 3 feet over flood stage by morning- which will be close to going over our road..
Heres a picture I stole off FB taken by the Highway Dept.. The reason the Highways are closed in several places in central MT. This is water across the road on US 191 south of Malta (north of Bohemian Corners) on the road toward Billings....
We are about to build arks here again- as we have picked up 1.6" of rain today- which on top of the 3" we received last week gives us 4.6" ... May not sound like much- but in an area that averages 11.5 inches of moisture a year- and survives some years on 9 or 10- this is a lot of moisture.. We are almost 5" over the average for this time of the year... And its still raining...
We should have expected this- with all the fog we had this winter...The old 90 days past a fog is coming true again...
Definitely is making everything green and producing some beautiful grass on the prairies... The negative is it is washing out some roads and the standing water is drowning out some fields.....I still haven't gotten my AI heifers hauled out to pasture- or my bulls out with the cows- but there is no big hurry.... I usually don't go out with bulls until the 6th to the 10th- and if I'm later than that because of the flooding I may be thankful next spring if we have another witch of a spring...

Still can't believe those amounts of rain :shock: Apparently the 'fog rule' doesn't hold true here. I wrote in my journal when it was supposed to rain and didn't get a drop on any of the days.

Wild night of thunder and lightning gave us another inch of rain- which I know you should never complain about- but sure wish it would have went to one of the dry areas...Milk River is flooding- and this will bring another rise...A foot or so rise will put it over a lot of local roads and besides isolating some folks will damage lot of hay/crop fields...
We are now over 5 inches above normal for moisture for the year.
We hauled out bulls yesterday a few days early because of the flooding fear- and even the hilltops are saturated...If I had my druthers- I'd druther have a couple of weeks of nice warm weather to get things growing...

we got a.25 overnight.
Your 5 inches over for the year and we are at 5 inches total. That may be a little high as the weather station I use historically gets a bit more to alot more then down here in the valley but it's close this year.
