how are things around the country

On august 3rd it was 31 degrees just west of Jackson MT. The big hole valley is an awesome place but it could use a little more sunshine. Reminds me of an old Willie song, something bout hoping for an uncloudy day! The grass is good and the hay went up well.

Heading for over 100F today. Yesterday we hit 102F and a whopping 6% humidity with two big fires, one north and a new one south of here. The north fire is making us nervous cause the cows are within half a dozen miles. The south fire looks better this morning, but needs to go out soon. Heading out to check on the cows and north fire now. Sure could use some rain.

Good luck, H. And here's hoping and praying for rain for your country.
Know what it's like to yearn for rain, Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

95 F 0r 35C here in the valley today.

That would wilt Gcreek

He'd wilt here too, for the next week:

Sat-93; Sun-90; Mon-90; Tues-91; Wed-84; Fri-88; Sat-84.

The lows are all in the 50's, EXCEPT (and I find this really odd,
but I checked it at two different online weather centers):
Saturday, Aug 24 the high is 84 with a low of 74. That's only
10 degrees difference between the high and the low.

This will be the longest hot temperature stretch so far this summer.
The area farmers should be happy, they are finally getting some combining weather!!!!

Been nice here the last couple weeks. Starting last Sunday we received 5.50", one storm on Sunday dropped 3.50" in one storm. Then two nights later about 1:30 in the morning one of my pastures got 6" in one night. Had water running where I have never seen water run before, neighbors feed just got pounded to the ground with hail also. But everything looks green sure beats last year.

Been foggy every morning last week. So maybe we are going to get a lot of rain/snow in about 60 days.

Good to hear you are getting some moisture!

Same here regarding the fog.

Dry, VERY dry.

Since the first of June, Des Moines is over 6.5 inches BELOW normal on rain and 1.5 inches BELOW normal for the year. Unbelieveable and that follows near record rainfall for April-May. Near 90 with zero rain chances for the next week.

Central Iowa is now classifed as being in a moderate drought.

It's been raining here since while we were trying to put crops in this spring. There is water laying in the hayfields that won't go away. Normally by this time the hay is all baled and moved off the fields. We haven't made a bale yet that hasn't seen a lot of moisture. Looks like we will be feeding mineral this winter
So far we have accumulated about 16" of rain, which is more than our average annual precipitation including snowfall  I guess that's not a lot for many of you folks, but this country isn't built for moisture like that. Our soils are thin and lay right on top of gumbo so a little water goes a long ways.
On a positive note, the grass in the pastures has never looked better! :D

haven't had any rain four three weeks here mowed the last of the hay today should have wrapped up Thursday.good feeling having 350 bales under roof when I ended this spring with only six bales left. got the bulls pulled a month ago heifers preged and opens shipped. need some rain to make this corn crop. corn looks pretty good here for all its been through and would love to see feeder calves keep climbing . with hay done hopefully we can start hauling all the stock piled manure and build some lot fence before we start chopping silage and weaning calves.

It's official - - - good rain thru July - - - 0.05" in August and 8 days 90F or higher.

Surprising the crops and pasture still look respectable but we could sure use a little moisture!

It's getting awfully dry here, north of exit 170 on I-90 and south of the Bad river. We have had just over 8" total moisture for the year.

Amazing that there is still a little green color to the grass, but we do have quite a bit of warm season grasses. Bluestem is looking pretty good on the hills

Prairie hay has done pretty well and pastures are holding up well. Cattle look good, too, so for the way the year started, we are pretty well blessed.

Had some interesting scenery on the west horizon this morning. two hot air balloons appeared, coming toward our house, then veered off to the northwest and disappeared.
