OK critics and devoted poetry fans, tell me about this one I just wrote to put on a poster as a wedding gift for a girl that I think of as a daughter. I plan on putting it overlayed on a picture of a team of horses. After reading the divorce thread I had a hard time coming up with much but sadness.
Since you two have done gone
and tied your lives into a knot
I think that it is time to share with you
a little of my thought.
You are about to start down a road,
one that never ends
One that has many hills and valleys,
one with many bends.
My one and only wish for you
it comes right from my heart
I hope that you will heed this thought
from the very start.
This journey you are undertaking
can only be accomplished by a team
Picture in your mind a pair of horses,
then you'll see just what I mean.
Make the wagon they are hitched to,
a vision of your home
And all of the things in the wagon,
belongings of your own.
Make the driver of this team our Savior,
leading you down this trail
Follow His directions
and this team will never fail.
It takes the pair of them pulling,
to get the wagon up to the top of the hill
Side by side they work together,
at times it takes a lot of skill.
If one of them should stumble,
the other takes up the slack
To keep the wagon moving forward,
and keep it from rolling back.
When they get to the top,
the view they get to share
The rewards are even sweeter
cause they did it as a pair.
Going down the other side
they are careful to not go too fast
Too much speed on the bumps
and the wagon won't ever last.
Too many things in the wagon
and the pair can't pull the load
Too much weight on the axles
and the wagons broken along the road.
When this team gets where they are going,
it's fresh water and green feed
But the team they stay together,
it's each other that they need.
Even unhitched they remain close together,
their partner by their side
Their commitment to their partner
is something they don't hide.
The hard times and the struggles,
the mountains they had to climb
Are merely just memories of good times,
slowly going through their mind.
When going through the hard times
they push harder on the hames
They never curse each other
or call each other names.
Whenever they get separated
a gentle nicker can be heard
And a nuzzle from the partner
is sometimes better than spoken word.
On this road together,
sometimes they can't see what's around the bend
But they keep on going together,
that's how this journey will end.
You two keep this vision with you,
into the years to come
Remember to love one another,
until your time is done.
