I'm not totally sure I can explain 'riding both sides of your horse' and don't know if I should even try. I take him to mean it is hard on your horse to have your weight off to one side, it is better if you can keep your weight in the middle of your horse, so that each side of the horse carries equal amounts of your weight. It could be a balance thing is why we ride like that, I don't know...
Did you look at your stirrups? Are they more worn on one side than the other? Every saddle I have looked at with any age on it is like that. Interesting. Something we do and didn't even know it...
This fellow rides a lot and used to ride many, many miles. Always looked for ways to save his horses. Awesome fellow, very caring.
