I got home at 6, went out for a quick hike thru the best deer land i know of (we own the four pieces around it, its a small grassland in the middle) and I saw absolutely the biggest buck ever!!! The one by the cemetary would be an easy 160, but this one made him look small. He had stickers everywhere, double drop tines, Split tines, wide and tall. He came to 50 yard, and all I had was my bow. I diddnt shoot cause 50 yards is risky, I diddnt want to just wound him and never find him. I hope to get another chance, but even if I don't get him, and someone else does thesame way (legally, and ethically), then I'll be happy, cause I know he got the respect he deserved :P.

a 200 yard belly crawl to get within position only to find out you were toool late and you cant see your sight pins is very discouraging :S :???:

First time I seen him, he was at 50 yards. Diddnt want to shoot unless it was a perfect shot, and I diddnt want to pack him out in the snow on my own, anyways. lol.

Ill shoot as soon as you 'll help butcher :P

I don't know how you folk's can hunt for month's we have a 9 day season which is 7 day's to long.

We have muzzle loader season, bow season, then 2 mo startin first weekend of November thru first weekend in january of regular deer season......I git sick of it. Not the huntin part, the "hunter" part. Our land backs up against the Sam Houston Nat'l Forest, and we get all kinds from all over sittin in stands along our fence. I worry about the horses gettin shot, we hafta go tear deer stands outta trees that are on our side of the fence, when the kids were little they couldnt come and go as they pleased for fear that some idiot with a gun that will shoot at anything that moves would shoot one of the kids.
We've always hunted, and enjoy it tremendously, but we don't hunt the Nat'l forest just simply because there's way too many people out there this time of year. We only hunt our own places.
I know I know...there are plenty of 'good hunters' out there....and that's fine, but it only takes one idiot to ruin it all.

Sounds like your having track soup.So just how big was that fish

Denny, the bow season is from Sept. 1 to Nov. 18th for whitetails, and from sept.1 -Nov.4 for mule deer. the rifle season os usually a month long. He was biiiiiiiiiiiggg, dad saw him again this AM, in with the cows, cept it wasnt him cause there were no split tines. I guess me an Dad are going to have to hunt hard this next while. lol

We have bow for white tail from October 1st till January 13th or so...with two breaks in there... One, in early to mid november for three days and one thanksgiving weekend for 4 days which is our "firearm" season which means muzzle loaders, handguns or shotguns (With slugs or saboted rounds only, no buckshot). There used ot be another 2-3 day muzzle season first week of December but can't recall if there is or not..

Depending on harvest you might get an antlerless only hunt in your county for three days after the bowseason ends.. Often a might bit cold that time of year... ONe year we had highs of 0 for it... I guess I have better things to do than freeze my arse off hunting after 3 months have already passed...
