Its 6:30 a.m and im heading north to look for some cows that tested the theory about the grass on the other side the fence. Thought i'd take a shot of the morning cept i forgot about the flash. My eyes! My eyes! Atleast nobody else is on the rural roads early on Saturday

We unloaded in Settlement Canyon and headed up. Gained around 2000 feet of elevation to look for escaped bovines on the ridges.

This is the head of the canyon looking south toward Rocky basin. Im taking pictures but im also remembering what a wise Uncle once told me.... Only look as far as ya want to ride!

The mahogany trees are full of pollen and smell wonderful. I like the veiw up in the nose bleed country.

Found a little bunch and started them down. There are 5 of us with cows in a leased pasture and a few of all 5 decided to change area codes. The grey cows are some Murray greys that Mr. Jerry Rigby runs. His son Ethan just missed reserve champion at the county fair and took 3rd place with a last years calf. Was the only calf in the star class that was not black!

Put bunch #1 in a holding corral and started up the main fork. Found a nice secluded spot to strip down and wash away the dust! Be advised that the next pictures could be a little risky!

Thankfully the self timer wasnt working!!!! The sky was sure pretty today and the clouds brought some scattered showers in the eveing.

We found a couple of red angus heifers of Rick Olson's in the main fork. They were not going down without a fight but we had'em outgunned!

One loop on a front foot later with a dally on a tree and finally the backup arrived. We put a 60 foot rope on her and took it up into the trailer and out to me. I had a good foot of slack left to dally with! But we changed her disposition and in she went.

Here's Rick apologizing for those Red angus sisters leading our nice black cows astray!

Inmates 706 and 722 offically re-captured!

Here are the rest of what we found today. Thirteen more to go next Saturday.

More pictures of the wild bunch!

I only found one of the three i'm out. She is a cow i bought this spring as a late calver. She brought in a nice heifer born last month. I hauled her to a different pasture 20 miles closer to home.

Some pictures of the cows already at the new place. A cow with a grafted calf. Sorry about the color but it's a check standing there.

Same cow from the side.

Heifer calf out of a first calf heifer.

How i got my handle!

The cat-house in the stackyard. Too bad they gotta grow up to be cats.

Next door to the cathouse is the turkey nest. She has a week to go and then we oughta be the proud parents of some more critters to feed. But we'll have to relocate them or the cats-to-be might have some turkey appitizers!

As always... thanks for taking us along for the ride :D . It looks like you got a lot accomplished, and had a good time getting it all done.

I admire you for living where you do and having to roundup in the Mts..that's quite a job. I still have a hard time with not seeing the cows on a regular basis like Soapweed and the rest of us Sandhillers do...We all can check our cows anytime we can, and usually see them all, even if it's from far away...lol No trees to block the view...Beautiful country though and sure enjoyed your photo story...thanks
