Husker Fans Miss The Big 12

Typical Tater. Always expects something for nothing.

You still haven't made good on our bet from the last time Nebraska played the Taters and whipped them. The vig on that hunsky you owe me may be more than you can pay here pretty soon. I'd hate to have to send Furio down there to collect.

Seems like lack of continuity is a program killer, especially at Kansas. I really liked Callahan, and think he would have succeeded at Nebraska. Didn't care for bo, but he didn't get weird after he came to Nebraska, he came that way and he won enough to keep his job. The fng is inches away from a good season. From where I sit, nebraskas problems are rich people's problems - I expect the fans with 50 years of sell outs, would be solid enough not to breathe any destructive mutiny crap. Really, the only people calling for the fng's head is people that want Nebraska to fail. It's pretty tough to be a Jayhawk, but trading coaches a every other year won't fix anything. We have a commie chancellor that thinks sports are too unequal and beneath her collectivist ideals.

I'll agree with your assessment of the folks who are calling for Riley's head.

The one good thing about Callahan is that he brought in Suh. His nose thumbing at Husker traditions, especially the walk on program, ticked the entire state off.

Bo left the cupboard even more bare than Old Mother Hubbard when it came to recruiting and depth. There's no way to know, but I'd wager that if Bo was still HC, no way in hell would he have won 9 games this year. The program was/is floundering thanks to the ineptness of him and his staff.

You forgot one of the most sought after and one of the very richest in the professional ranks.

You bet I'm proud of what he accomplished as a Husker. His commitment, hard work, and dedication was rewarded when he was drafted what, second in the first round?

I don't follow pro ball at all, but I can't recall him being arrested for assaulting women or committing murder. He doesn't binge for days in a whorehouse fueled by cocaine and alcohol until he vapor locks. For being an extremely wealthy pro athlete, he appears to be a model citizen. He's gifted the Nebraska athletic department with millions of dollars for improvements and a new strength & conditioning facility.

If there's a problem with his on field behavior, blame Goodell, the NFL commish. He could put a stop to it quick, fast, and in a hurry IF he wanted to. But it doesn't look like he wants to, content with the occasional fine, which Suh has always paid.

Pro football is a contact sport. Suh is the modern day Butkus, Deacon Jones, Bob Lilly, etc. If opposing players are scared of him, I guess they can retire. My guess is that any questionable behavior on his part is simply retaliation for prior behavior towards him. When you spend the majority of your playing time being double and triple teamed, you know that things are happening to him that aren't caught on camera or by the refs.

Don't hate the player, hate the game...or in this case, Roger Goodell.

I never thought about the deacon jones comparison, but it probably puts things in perspective. No denying suh doesn't win the citizenship award, but he's not lonely among pro athletes. I haven't heard anything trashy from suh for years, but I believe in glass houses ( we got the Morris twins). Everyone but the taters has skeletons. Lawrence Phillips commits rape (and every last husker is outraged.) vennables commits rape while an assistant at Hooterville, and the old man gets it covered up. Everyone lives in a glass house in athletics.

True. But Brad, you gotta admit that it gets damned old when the Taters, Tater lovers, and wannabe Taters are convinced that the only athletes who have a second career as juvenile delinquents or criminals all wear or wore Husker uniforms.

1-6 Purdue just showed Nebraska that they are a LONG way from being relevant in the Big ten,let alone the nation..... good luck recruiting with a 3-6 record

You gotta give the Husker offense some credit. They did score 45 points. Problem is.............the Boilermakers scored 55.

100 points combined. That has to be some sort of record?

I want to see Cariker's take on this before I say too much. It was a trainwreck of epic proportions. Too many injuries, picks, penalties, you name it.

I will say this, and I truly believe it. Bo totally dropped the ball for YEARS as far as recruiting...now Riley is getting to deal with the results...hence the "leaving the cupboard bare" analogy. Bo totally poisoned the well with his "us vs.them" mentality. I think he saw this wreck coming a season or two ago and did his damndest to get canned. The next poor sap could deal with the aftermath.

If Bo were still HC, with this team, he'd be lucky to win 4 this season. I'm honestly not sure if half the roster could play at the Division III level and be successful... And that's not Riley's fault...that falls on Bo.

Will Riley get axed? Who knows. Riley will never be fully able to show us what he can accomplish unless and until every recruit from the Pelini era is GONE. There is a faction on the roster working to unseat Riley...of that I have no doubt.

Funny how you now say that Bo dropped the ball totally, but defended him to the high heavens before he got fired. Funny as hell!

WE TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've always said that I ride for the brand...but had I known what Bo was up to before he got canned, I'd have been calling for his head. There's a lot more going on here than is public or common knowledge. For now, I have to believe that Riley knows what he's doing, and trust him to do the right thing, even if I not 100% sold for the moment.

If Riley survives to coach a second season, don't be surprised if there is a major shakeup in the program, player wise during the off season. There's a rumor that there is a lot of dough being laid out to sow the seeds of hatred and discontent amongst the fan base and other donors.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Talk about games that matter.

This will be a stain you don't wash out, the gum on Mike Riley's shoe that won't come off. Another fire alarm game.

There are losses and then there are losses that are events. Purdue 55, Nebraska 45 is one of those.

It goes with 70-10 at Texas Tech in 2004, 40-15 at Kansas (the first loss at KU) in 2005, 45-14 to Oklahoma State in 2007 and the Wisconsin bookends: 70-31 and 59-24.

But there was one big difference with this one, played out before a lonely, half-empty Ross-Ade Stadium.

Purdue.

This was not Mike Leach running it up because he could, the beginning of Mark Mangino's Orange Bowl run, Mike Gundy's offense or Wisconsin's Big Ten champs.

This was to the basement Boilers, who ranked 103rd nationally in offense, 97th in defense and near the bottom in everything else.

Since the Bopsy Twins, Mike & Jigs, seem to know everything concerning Husker football, look into your crystal ball and enlighten me as to what should be done to correct the problem. And go just a little deeper than saying to fire Riley and his staff.

I'll be anxiously waiting on your responses, oh Wizards of the Pigskin.

Simple, change Conferences again. The Huskers are out of their league and this way they can get back to winning almost immediately. Well................... maybe not.

Try this one, they'll be glad to have you: http://espn.go.com/college-football/conferences/teams/_/id/12/conference-usa-conference

That's just about the caliber of answer I was expecting. You trade your truck off every time it needs repaired, too, I'll bet.

Everyone's a critic, but not many can offer anything constructive.
