all you ever heard was tradition and how they miss the OU rivalry game, and now...screw it, it is all bout the money. huskers try to rationalize it to make it easy to sleep at night, but deep down, they know they are being hosed over.....

The ONLY guarantee K State EVER had was selling out Memorial Stadium South anytime Nebraska came to Manhattan to play. K State may hate us, but they always seemed to love the money the Husker Nation left in Manhattan.

Now, exactly what will K State's (and the remainder of the Big 12 team's) share of the revenue be from the University of Texas Football Network?

The money thing isn't just athletics, although we we need more money (or think we do) because our basketball facilities are arguably the worst in the Big 12. Football also supports all of the other programs, so all the women's sports, swimming, bowling, etc... need to be funded and football is the only one that is cash positive.


However, the real money thing is in research/grants. I'm not sure how the school rating thing goes, but everybody in the Big 10 is in the highest classification, as is Nebraska. That's not the same for the Big 12. For some reason, the crew you're associated with makes a difference on your chances for that big money, and not more doors open up for us.

So it is all about the money. :???:

I would never condone Auburn for leaving the SEC, nor would anyone else, for any amount of money.

Will the Huskers retain ANY of the old rivalry games? Only conference games are listed on the Big 10 website.

Hope they know what they're doing, but I just can't see it. Do you really agree, or are you just justifying it for the Huskers sake?

Of course money comes into play. Money (for Texas and nobody else) is what pushed us out. Our rival was OU, and when the Big 12 was formed, good 'ol Texas put the kabosh on our annual game with them (but kept THEIR game with OU). CU, despite their attempts to manufacture a rivalry is not a rival, and none of the other teams in the former Big 8 ever beat us enough to create a rivalry, with the exception of Oklahoma.

So, basically, it came down to the Big 10 offering us more money for both athletics and academics, and there was no reason to stay in the Big 12. I keep asking you yeahoos for a reason to stay and I don't hear any...

The way it works in the SEC is that a team in the Western Division, and vice versa, got to choose one team in the Eastern Division for a permanent rivalry game and is obligated to play them year in and year out. Auburn chose Georgia, for instance.

Then the other two out of division games are to be rotated throughout until they play every team in the entire Conference in a given number of years, plus each team plays everyone within their division every year.

I assume it works the same way in the Big 12? If so, Texas had no say in your Oklahoma rivalry series. If not, you had poor representation with the league and didn't carry enough clout to make any demands. The way to build that clout is not by jumping ship.

College football is ALL about rivalries and bragging rights for the year. Nebraska has to start all over and build new ones. That could take a long time........

Like I said, Mike, it's too late to save rivalries. That ended for us then the Big 12 was formed. We've got a much better deal East of us and no reason to stay here. The bunch that we're with no seems to like the taste of Bevo's rear, but not us.
