Snow, some wind, and now more snow.

We have got more snow in last 4 days than we did all last winter. It has many of the ranchers scrambling around here to get cows a little closer to home and on feed. I just finished moving mine in a snow storm last night. Got them half way home to a pasture with some bales at it. They will come the rest of the way on Thursday. We were planning on shipping calves next Friday, so a decision had to made to either make them scrounge for feed under snow or bring them home and feed them. We would have had lots of grass until some time in December, but with the calves still on the cows, I didn't want to be losing any weight.

You are exactly right. That's why we always tried to get the calves gone by Oct. 10, or close to it as possible. We hate those storms on the calves.
So far so good here--only rain! Hopefully we'll get some more before we get the white stuff.

An old cowboy told me many times: "It's not good when snow falls on dust."
That sure happened here last year. Hopefully a better year is ahead for all of us.

We had a nice drizzle all day, and now there is a slight cover of snow on the yard. Didn't check the rain gauge, but judging by driveway puddles, it might be at least a quarter inch. I'd still rather the snow stay in the mountains!

We had rain last week, then six inches of some of the wettest snow we have seen in awhile on Saturday. Made a nice hard crust for the next couple inches we got over night Monday. Wind came up and blew it around nice for us as well. I am pretty sure this stuff is here to stay now. :( :(

Good thing Ma Nature grew lots of hay this year. We are shipping calves in the next week and will then put cows on winter rustling swamps.
We haven't gotten much for snow yet but the temps are sure cool for Oct.

As usual, we will take what comes and deal with it when it gets here. :D
