I got the 'Illustrated history of the Civil War' from the library yesterday-it's huge with 1,000's of battlefield pics etc-but it's got a chronological listing of engagements along with casualties for the entire war. I didn't realize that there were some battles fought in new mexico and arizona-I didn't think it got that far west-interesting reading though.

I have a collection of Civil War cards tucked away in my Roy Rodgers lunch box. I will have to look through them as they have a picture on the front and a news clipping on the back. They are like base ball card and early 60's vintage i think. If somebody has a million dollars they want to invest I probably could be persuaded to part with them. :D

I have that book. Lot's of good pictures. The theme is sorta slanted in favor of the Northern Aggressors, but the pictures are sure worth it.

I never could figure out why they call it the "Civil" War, there was nothing CIVIL about it.......

Slanted, you think? Who gets to write the history books?

plenty of civil war history around me. I live in west knoxville and a small battle was fought here, The battle of Campbells Station. We used to have a re-enactment (sp?) every other year in a big field where the battle took place. Now it's a putt-putt course and driving range, go figure. Several civil war graves all around.

One of the last mom and pop stores around was owned by J Frank Russell, his family owned the farm before the civil war and he would tell stories of when he was a kid about him and his grandmother pulling cannon balls and rifle balls out of the old house and throwing them into the creek.
