I am an Arizona cattle rancher, was fairly new to this forum when the trouble came down over an experience posted by a young Arizona cowboy.
Because I hadn't been here long, my impressions of ranchers.net were not clouded by sentiment or affection. Unfortunately, what I saw and experienced here was a maliciously snarky and belittling attitude from some regulars toward a young man they didn't agree with. This attitude extended to those who defended him. I didn't say "all" on ranchers.net, I said "some".
And these "some" are still at it. Throwing insults, acting innocent, outraged and aghast when insults are thrown back. Feeding at the trough of self-righteousness, patting each other's backs, carrying this unfortunate set of events on and on and on and on. It's even been suggested that one who dropped out of ranchers.net over the actions of these people, JB, may suffer economic consequences.
There's a "new forum" started by this young Arizona cowboy and JB. On this "new forum" rancher's.net is not a subject for discussion. Your friend and mine, JB, has taken the moral high road.....he refuses to let comments made on ranchers.net become issues.
AZcowpuncher and JB's new forum may not be to everyone's taste. As we see here, there are always those "delicate" few who cringe at realistic life on a working cattle ranch, those "oh-so-nicey nice" few who are so easily offended, those who make a life by looking for something to criticize. The new forum wouldn't meet their needs.
As for me, though, I'll stick with what I understand. The cowboys...real hands, that is. I know what to expect from them. Most are fine men, right down to the young and fiesty ones. If you slam one of them, though, you'd better expect to get slammed in return.
I'm just glad I saw and experienced the snarky side of ranchers.net soon after joining up.
It's unfortunate...my loss and yours...that such a few people can taint the entire forum, and I have no doubt I'll miss knowing many, many fine people here because of this incident.
I wish all of them the best.
