I am an Arizona cattle rancher, was fairly new to this forum when the trouble came down over an experience posted by a young Arizona cowboy.

Because I hadn't been here long, my impressions of ranchers.net were not clouded by sentiment or affection. Unfortunately, what I saw and experienced here was a maliciously snarky and belittling attitude from some regulars toward a young man they didn't agree with. This attitude extended to those who defended him. I didn't say "all" on ranchers.net, I said "some".

And these "some" are still at it. Throwing insults, acting innocent, outraged and aghast when insults are thrown back. Feeding at the trough of self-righteousness, patting each other's backs, carrying this unfortunate set of events on and on and on and on. It's even been suggested that one who dropped out of ranchers.net over the actions of these people, JB, may suffer economic consequences.

There's a "new forum" started by this young Arizona cowboy and JB. On this "new forum" rancher's.net is not a subject for discussion. Your friend and mine, JB, has taken the moral high road.....he refuses to let comments made on ranchers.net become issues.

AZcowpuncher and JB's new forum may not be to everyone's taste. As we see here, there are always those "delicate" few who cringe at realistic life on a working cattle ranch, those "oh-so-nicey nice" few who are so easily offended, those who make a life by looking for something to criticize. The new forum wouldn't meet their needs.

As for me, though, I'll stick with what I understand. The cowboys...real hands, that is. I know what to expect from them. Most are fine men, right down to the young and fiesty ones. If you slam one of them, though, you'd better expect to get slammed in return.

I'm just glad I saw and experienced the snarky side of ranchers.net soon after joining up.

It's unfortunate...my loss and yours...that such a few people can taint the entire forum, and I have no doubt I'll miss knowing many, many fine people here because of this incident.

I wish all of them the best.

This one example of calling Northern Rancher's wife a ' dog' is not the behavior expected out of one claiming to be the high moral standards that we all know ' cow' people/farmers/ranchers etc observe.

Let us not forget AZ calling people here sheep f--kers to boot!

Cowgal...DROP IT!!! It's over....you're over...AZ's over...and JB's over....their choice to leave was exactly that ......THEIR CHOICE!

Ok first off I've tried to just stay out of and shut up about this whole ordeal since I was on vacation when it went down. However, today having a day off and still reading it made me realize I have to say something so get ready........

This part of the post offended the hell out of me. First off I am a cowperson I hate the term cowboy and cowgirl reminds me of drunks trying to rope and buckle bunnies at a rodeo people past their prime in some instances not mature enough to give up an arena dream. I'm neither I'm involved in an industry that provides my lively hood and is a profession that has been passed on for generations of my family. My great grandparents fed their families this way and now I help carry on the tradition. It's as much about family and values as it is cows for me. I strive to be a steward of the land and to be involved in new programs that raise the profibility of this operation. Sometimes looking outside the box and to new ways such as embryo transfer and placing embryos in my cows for other producers in order to not only make a larger profit but also to learn. To gain knowledge. Real hands are the cattle producers striving to better their herds without abusing their land. They are the men and women working any and all hours striving to produce better marketable cattle to meet industry demands. You wanna talk about real hands don't forget the women who stand behind and beside these cowmen helping night calve, hay, and the woman that get jobs in town to help acquire assets to help in ranch and cow number growth. The real hands aren't the one telling the stories they are the one living the life.

Now on to the slamming. I think each of us have been involved in it and slamming it's immature and lacks taste. Plus it just usually makes the ones involved look immature and uneducated. Plus Rude! JMHO

Very well said Thank You..

I am a new poster and had just started reading the forum when I read the story posted by the poor misguided boy from AZ. I was lurking then and decided not to comment but after reading this put down by another AZ citizen I am starting to wonder what they call "hands" down there. It has never been my desire to be called a cowboy, in fact I consider it a mild insult. A real "hand" will never abuse their animals. The story he told was abuse, plain and simple.

I was raised on a ranch and after finishing college returned to the ranch and began to work my way into the management of that ranch. There has never been one incidence of abusing a restrained animal that I thought the person doing the abusing looked intelligent. I have been guilty of allowing my temper to get the better of me while working cattle, but I have never been proud of my behavior. I certainly would never want to have a description of my behavior posted on the web for all to see.

I think that the young man got a well deserved smack down for his behavior. It is not necessary to "put the boots" to a tied down cow. Abusing a restrained animal is not laudable, it is not justified, and it certainly will never accomplish anything other than making the person doing the abuse look small.

A true cowman learns how to use the animal's behavior to make the animal do what the cowman wants the animal to do. When you truly understand the animal, brute force is not necessary. But of course, you rough tough folks from AZ wouldn't consider me a real cowboy because I don't wear a flat brimmed hat, I don't even own a horse and the only thing I can catch with a rope is myself. Furthermore, I am also involved in the farming operation. I will never be able to achieve the status of "cowboy". Thank goodness. I just hope I can live up to the title of cowman.

Welcome rancherfred.

After reading tons and tons of posts on all the drama my question is this can anyone here actually say they have never gotten rough with an animal? In no way do I at all excuse or say the handling I read was acceptable but I just wonder where is the line between abuse and getting a job done?

we need old AZdiaper rash back here...it is becoming over ran with the Huskers! I am feeling pretty nervous that the front page will be a big red N before long

I was thinking the same thing jigs. Is this Soapweed or Katrina's fan club? You know the Grateful Dead has the "Dead Heads" that follow them. We don't have a bunch of "Soap Heads" joining up do we??? :???: :???:
