The little calf that mysteriously showed up at my place has a RFID tag. Would I be able to tell what farm she came from with this thingy. Or does it just say she is a Canadian girl :)

Yup, the number on it is recorded to the owner in the CCIA database. Just hack into their website and worm your way into the records and you can then tell whose little calf you rustled you rascal.

Or, it might be easier just to call or email them . . . . but not nearly as exciting, of course.

Ahah! I think when hacking I will pull out my mission impossible suit, special infared goggles and climbing gear. Alot more fun than calling anyone! The mystery of who installed this baby in my barn is about to be solved......... :D Jinglebob said Jerseys are dumb, mine is super smart and a champion jumper. She has amazing scope, tucks those little knees up when she sees me coming. Although I feed her from a bucket so maybe that is why she is smarter than his bottle reared ones :D :P
* Judith runs like heck to avoid the bottle being whipped at her head*

I like the fact the little jersey was a mystery. :(

JB don't know nutin, those jerseys are both smart and purdy :!:

Little jerseys are so cute!!!!!
Judith, that CCIA website is something else to navigate through. That reminds me, I have to get in there and get the calves registered soon, if I can remember my password and how to type in all the information and how to print out birth certificates.

Okay the deal is off for you two. You don't get to use Spike for a guard dog!

We had a Jersey cows for the kids to milk. Nice little cow, tho' her teats were too small for me to get more than a two finger hold on it. She was a nivce little cow but her calves never sold very good.

But then, I ain't a real big fan of dairy cows. Might be why I don't like so many of these so called angus cows. Too much holstein in them.

Can anyone with internet access run this number and see what comes up? I dont have "Access" Grrrrrr...

124 000 257 814 202

How can you not have access if you are on the internet right now? :???:

I tell you, this ID crap is already showing all it's faults.

If the little critter was down here and had a brand, you'd have known who he belonged to with one phone call.

Do I need to plant a boot in your bottom? Me thinks it might be a necessary couse of action. I dont have access cuz I am not an elitist member of the clan of the cave cows. :P

:D

Oh you can only find the id's on your own calves??? Well that's not gunna work then :) Poop

you are correct Katy I took this right off the site

How confidential are the records?

The information maintained at the CCIA office includes date, record of individual unique number and link to the herd of origin and packing plant. The information is secure and the CCIA will only provide information from those records to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in the event of a request for trace back for health or safety reasons.

Man, that is one heck of a system you guys got working for you ain't it? And to think down here all you got to do is call a brand inspector.

Judith-- Am I reading this correct that it is a stray calf that just wandered in?
If so- I would be contacting a brand inspector or some type of authority, so that some ding dong neighbor doesn't come along and try to accuse you of rustling...Make the authorities aware of what happened and have them find the owner......

Are you forgetting she lives in Vancouver, OT?

They may charge her with molesting livestock or some such nonsense!

Well you are kind of reading it correctly. The calf appeared in my stall one morning.( someone had to open the barn then lock her in a stall. I will let the big wigs know. Your right I don't want to be accused of theft  Katy pointed out that she may have been wandering about and some one just stuffed her in a stall to keep her safe. There are no Jersey dairies close to me only Holsteins. I did let all of the local boys know. They all laughed and said of course someone ditched her "who would want a Jersey" She is about 2 weeks old and is soooooooo cute :)

If you contact CCIA and give them the number they may contact the owner. Producers wanted a Confidential system and that's what we got. If registered you could tell how old she is and pint off a Birth Certificate but not the owner. RCMP or a Vet may help your cause wih CCIA.

JB how many 2 week old jersey calves are not branded in your area?

I don't know what the laws of B.C. are - but in Montana- it would be considered an estray- and if they could not locate the owner-- the State of Montana would be the owner and would sell it with the profits going to the State.....

You do have wierd happenings around and in your yard and barns

All of them would be except there ain't no jerseys around here.

Go ahead, stick up for your malfunctioning methods.

Well, at least once you perfect it, then we can steal it and claim it for our own! :D
