IDEA...Good or bad???

My mind wanders when I am on a tractor. Was cutting some hay today with a 16 foot mo-co. The tractor I have on it ,is actually too big for the job, but it is all I got.
How cool would it be to mount another 16 foot header directly on the front of the tractor and cut 32 feet in one pass?? It would sure save on that "cheap" diesel I've been burning!!
I've got an awesome set of tools and a $hit-load of welding rod.....I smell a winter project!!!! :)
Has anyone ever heard of someone trying this before??
 
Krone makes something like that as does Khun.. Also, the New Holland TV is set up that you drive it "backwords" and it pushes a header and can pull a traditional moco at the same time.. All you need it a PTO on both ends.. Wouldn't surprise me if there is a way around it too...

I was "thinking" my tractor, a IHC 1086 has dual PTOs. The mo-co I have is 540 rpm. Maybe a guy could jam another pump onto that 1000 rpm shaft(if there is room) ,that is just sitting there spinning, and just run lines up to the front.......

It would drive my Boys crazy, having to watch front and back........I like it!!!!!

ive seen it done on a big four wheel drive john deere tractor...kinda over kill but it worked
what tractor will you be putting it on?

On RFD-TV (TV show that is GREAT!), there is a program with all kinds of inventive ideas such as you mentioned, and it originates in Canada. You contact "BuySell .Com., and they either have already done what you suggest, or somebody can do it for you, or it may be an idea for someone to work on. I think it is a great idea, and your hay making would double in speed, and you can't kick about that!!

Kuhn has one that mounts in front of the tractor and has wings on both sides in the rear, mounts on a regular tractor is kinda neat but i dont know what it costs
 
I have a friend who has a 10' disc bine that mounts on the front of his massey it has front 3 point and pto he also pulls a haybine behind and cuts 19' per pass which is big for here.I use a Rowse double 9 mower I don't use any fertilizer so my hay is'nt so thick that it needs conditioning.

The only problem I see with your idea is how are you going to support it as you will have to have one or the other offset quite a bit.

Cutting with a pivot tongue you run center over the preivoys windrow so you would just be driving down the one the front mount is cutting.
 
I can't find a copy of "Farm Show" around - - - you could google it.

They show lots of farm made equipment and I have seen several machines like what you want their.

I think it only comes out about 8 time a year and when it does I get it for about two days till my son or one of his frineds takes it.
 
You'd have to do a 9 or 10 foot up front, as you'd have no way to swing it from side to side. Your pull behind only swings out so far, so any bigger on front and your drag along would simply be cutting stuff that had already been cut. So you'd have alternating windrows of 10 foot and 16 foot. Unless you wanted to rake it you'd have unequal dry down times.

Honeybee makes a twin 30 foot header (for a total of 60 feet) like what you're thinking of, but they're end dumps with no conditioners.

Your 1086 is 125 HP. You don't have a whole big bunch of power to spare. Most 16 foot mocos take about 90. Add another 60 - 70 for a 10 foot, and you'll be short of power too. You'd need 3 hydraulics, which most 1086's didn't have.

All in all its a good idea, but I can't see how you'd ever accomplish it. At least not with twin 16 foot conditioners.
