If NCBA is getting 87% of checkoff dollars why isn't it assessed against NCBA members only or why aren't they paying 87% of the checkoff?

1. The Beef Checkoff benefits ALL cattle producers equally.

2. The vote to implement the Beef Checkoff passed by a nearly 80% margin.

3. Do you realize that "NCBA" as used in that statement is not only the membership organization?

a. NCBA is comprised of two divisions.
b. One is the Dues payer/Policy division some of you love to hate.
c. The other is the Federation of State Beef Councils division, which
is comprised of representatives from all the state beef councils and
they are members of ALL beef organizations.

4. How do you believe it benefits the Dues/Policy division of NCBA that the Federation of State Beef Councils receives contracts to do work on a COST RECOVERY ONLY basis?

Do you understand that means there is NO profit to the organization?

Do you understand that those contracts are not a source of income that NCBA can use for other programs of the organization, nor for lobbying?

If you do understand those things, what, exactly, is your problem with this system?

Compulsory association. My state beef council is not truly representative. Not all beef producers are represented by it and it does not speak for all of them.

OCM,

In an ideal world the progressive producers could double their checkoff and only they would benefit. Then the blamers could watch as their own commodity beef industry withered on the vine. That would be a perfect world. Unfortunately because of the freeloaders that benefit from beef research, promotion, and education, the blamers in the industry are forced to benefit against their will. I would rather watch them self destruct personally like the blamers in the sheep industry did. Now only the progressives in the sheep industry remain and they voted their checkoff back in at an 80% landslide.

Most checkoff bitchers cannot site a case of misuse of checkoff dollars. They just want to bitch.

The check off is cumpolsory. But the beef producers that are not represented are so because it was their choice NOT to.

So, how are your state Beef Council representatives chosen? How are your state CBB representatives chosen?
