If you were buying from a seedstock man, what things would you be looking for in him and his operation? I of course want to produce reliable, proven genetics that people want to buy. I would also want to run a "transparent" operation that was a 100% honest with nothing to hide. I think those are some important things. Now, lets get into breeds. I want to produce registered Angus seedstock to sell to commercial and Angus cattlemen. However, I have considered the fact of running two breeds. I.e., like the Express Ranch selling Angus and Limousine seedstock while also selling LimFlex crossbreds. What are your thoughts on that? If I am raising Angus, should I stick with that one breed? Or, if I do run another breed and also sell F1's, should I keep to the British breeds or get the vigor of a Continental? I don't know how stupid this sounds, but I would dumber yet if I didn't ask it. 'Preciate you taking the time to help me out.

If you go to visit and all he talks about is his sucesses and has never hit a wrong turn--RUN WITH ALL YOU HAVE. A breeder will give you plenty of facts and let you weed out what will work & what will not. The 2 breeds is tough especially in your country-- I spent a decade one year in Yoder- country is good but tough
Best of luck to you

Thanks. I wasn't for sure if more than one breed is pushing things, but I may need to get a little larger before that's feasible.

I've got my hand's full keeping track of one Registered breed. I like to run about 1/2 commercial cow's also that way you can drift the common/cull type calves into a feedlot somewhere. Just because they are purebred and registered does'nt make them breeding quality. I myself think 1/2 of the bull's should be cut. Same with heifers keep 60% for replacements and sale heifers don't keep every little drip heifer and stick it to someone just sell'em for what they are feeder's.

If I were to raise another breed it would be Horned hereford but around here that market is pretty soft so there is no real need. I don't think much of the crossbred bull selling but to each their own.

Be Honest is by far the most important thing there is and don't worry about (Your Type) of cattle. For every person who does'nt like your type there's one that does. You can't be everything to everybody so your best not to worry about it..

Thanks Denny. I think that the message has been pretty clear that if I am selling the product folks in my area want and am 100% honest about everything, I should be alright. I also think having commercials in order to get rid of the low end calves is a great idea. I certainly don't want to be selling bad breeding cattle just 'cause I can. Thanks again.
