Today as I was breaking ice in the creek, I saw something you don't see every day in Feb. in SD. I had broke out a big hole with the bar, and then switched to a shovel to throw the ice out. I kept bumping into something hard, that was bobbing up and down, and finally I realized that it was a snapping turtle. I fished around with the shovel, and finally flipped it up onto the ice next to me. I left it there for a second as I threw the ice out, then gave him a flip back into about 3 ft of water. This spot has a good spring, and he must be using it to his advantage to winter in.
Live long enough, and you might see it all. Maybe.
