Saturday, the SIL and grandsons helped me install some cameras to watch the heifer pen.

The first heifer I've watched calve on my new video in progress! This is the first one. I am to start March 22, but a couple of the Red Angus cross have come early.

I also sprung for a new chute. I like.

It has a manual headgate with the hydraulic lock. It is feather touch operation.

The tail gate is a bifold, and neck slots are sure big.

Looks like some nice improvements. The cameras will save a lot of bundling up to go check heifers. With all the footwork you will save, you'll have to buy an exercise machine to stay in shape.

The rancher where we winter some of our heifer calves has a new Sioux Steel chute. We used it last fall to bangs vaccinate the heifers, and it worked very well. His has a "self-catch" headcatch. I like your manual headcatch even better. I think you will like the squeeze part of the chute very well, too. I have to wonder why Sioux Steel puts the palpation gate in backwards to what most manufacturer do.

Nice pictures. In this case of ranch improvements, hope and change are working our for the better.

Had to assist this heifer. Red angus sire by Conquest - nice enough calf, but think he'll on the cows if they all are like this one.

I think Sioux Steel puts the palp cage in backwards because the bifold gate is safe, and the palp gate will keep the animal in the chute better if you are catching her by yourself. I guess the jury is still out on how well I like that feature.

I like you chute shortgrass. I've worked in a couple souix chutes and I like them. I don't particularly like the automatic head gate but yours seems nice from here. I don't mind the palp door on "backwards". Your lot cameras are nice as well. I've kind of been curious how well they work. Keep us posted.
Are your cameras wireless?

I did a bunch of remodeling around here too, but a lot more to go.

I was wondering about the camera setup. Is it wireless and how well does it take the weather

I got some Ag Cam cameras I bought a couple years ago, just never set them up yet.

The cameras are wired. Direct bury cable about a foot deep. Still working the bugs out, IR is not working on one of them tonight, so will call Tech assistance tomorrow. Have a 4th one to put up still.
