Got my heifers up from Fraser's and the kids and I branded them today-we use similar bulls so they should fit in quite well. Better heifers than I raise myself but were getting there.

Why are they better than you raise? Having bought heifer's I've never been very satisfied. With the number of cow's you run I would think there would be 50 or so top heifers out of all the AI work you do.

Ohh I raise some good ones but I'm not afraid to admit there might be others just as good or better-we've bought females from Fraser's for years-they breed their Hereford heifers Angus and I get their baldies. Got some Lad daughters in this group too so I'm pretty happy. It's getting hard to find an A'I bull to use I hate to say-they've bred so much milk into Angus cattle or else they have some breeding I can't hack-EXT comes to mind. We've sold probably 200 cows since BSE so always ready to source the right kind of heifers.

Here's a Lad daughter out of a black baldie cow-these heifers were born from early May on and were wintered on chopped hay. Ty claimed this one.

That's a real nice heifer. I hope my cows I bred to Lad this year stick.

I like the brand also. My uncle uses a lazy Y lazy 3 on the rib.

Here's a bred heifer out of a Fraser cow-she's a daughter of the bull were going to use back on our Lad daughters. Normally I have my bred heifers kicked out but want to see how the experimental heifer bull calves before I get them too far from home. I already replaced him by the way.

NR is that a hot brand? and if it is why did you shave the area??

If a freeze brand I understand, but it looks like the hair is burned to me.

Good loking heifers.

On these wooly northern cattle you do get a nicer, cleaner brand if you swipe some of the hair off.

You never did tell us what the 'experimental' heifer bull was?? you must have had more troubles if you've already shipped him.

He's not shipped yet but we've bought a couple bulls that we can use instead of him. I'll wait and see how the rest come before I reveal his lineage lol. I'm a fussy brander and Ty who branded these is fussier than I am-I hate a blotchy crappy brand. These heifers have great hair coats thats for sure.
