I have 2 lease properties that i currently graze cattle on. I don't have insurance because I didn't know that I could do so because it is lease property. I know a few people who recieved compensation from the insurance they had on their cattle on their lease properties for drought. It currently probably would be considered a hobby farm since I do not have that much cattle (for right now). Can someone explain how I can go about doing this? Placing Insuranc on my lease property in case there is more drought ahead. I am in Texas. Thank you ahead of time any advice is welcome.

Yeah I don't know about how that works.. We insure out rented ground, but it's for crops..And grass insurance wasn't worth the time to fill out the forms.. Ask around, talk to an insurance agency..Let us know how or what you find out..

Dittos..... welcome!!!

I'd bet it would make a difference if you rented by the acre or so much a head
Don't see you being able to Insure if its by the head. But if you rented so much an acre you would suffer a loss if it was dry

I just got a quote for crop insurance on my cattle, on leased ground.

About $600 annually for aprox. $105,000.00 coverage. Does not cover natural causes.

Don't know about drought, neighbors around here said their drought coverage wasn't worth squat.

go to your county ascs office. it is called nap insurance, it may or may not pay back what you pay for it depending on the year, but if you don't have it you don't qualify for feed programs etc.. around here you have to purchase it before 12-1 for the upcoming yr. you will have to have a contract that they can make a copy of. ascs can answer a lot of questions if you have a good agent there
