OK, if it wasnt bad enough that Mike has scarred me for life with the man thong image. Imagine my horror when I was butchering chickens and they were clucking with their heads off

Has anyone had this happen before or do I have a new breed of demon spawn! I have never butchered in the cold before, would that have something to do with it? GROSSSSSS!!!! Rabbits are so much easier, I think I'll stick to thumper...gickers

What I used to hate more than anything when I was a kid...................

having to go under the house to get a chicken whose head had been cut off. They'd be flopping and slinging blood all over the place and I had to wait until Saturday to get a bath.

Bullfrogs live a long time after the rear legs have been cut off too. I've seen them live 2-3 days after cleaning.

Never heard a "Chicken Head" cluck.

It wasnt the head....it came from the body as I was defeathering AAAAAAAA

You must have hit the squawker pipe  You can take them out of birds and blow thru them and make all kinds of squawking sounds...We used to play with them as kids...

Thing I used to hate worse as a kid was when one of those headless "dead" chickens would chase you

This should have been listed as the "twilight zone" chicken......

Oh yeah, what the hell are you doing eating chicken and rabbits when you should be eating beef.......   :???:

When I saw it was a Judith post and it started out talking about Mikes thong-- I was getting highly skeptical of what would be talking back to her  I guess her reputation is beginning to proceed her

Manitoba you smart bum! It's pretty hard to raise cattle on a 10 acre city lot :)(especially one that is covered in 10 trillion thoroughbreds) And I won't eat beef from a store. Yuckers. You don't want me to eat beef from a store do you????? Greyish meat just aint right.....

Judith......if your store doesn't sell decent meat it's high time to shop elsewhere...........we buy lots of meat (always seem to run out of our own before anythings ready for buthchering). Try any place that sells fresh or frozen AAA product........should be great! After all it's prime Canadian beef!

I can't hardly stand to eat chicken now. When I was a kid and it was time to
" put up" chickens...my job was to kill'em with the ol' axe to neck treatment. I was paid 25cents per chicken. Big money for a 8 yr old.
But I did hate chasin' them down thru the pasture with them just floppin' this way and that!!!

Now I look on it as some sort of violation of child labor laws maybe???

Are Canadian chickens lazy? I've never had one take off a running :) I put em in the cone and they seem to stay put. Even the ones that have been bumped off on a stump just stay put. Maybe I just have em trained proper :)

No way am I eating store bought beef you can't convince me to do it. Anything that tastes like you are licking the side of the cow is not proper beef. (yes I am a spoiled brat) I'm too used to my off the farm stuff. I do have to admit that the roasts from Costco arent half bad, but at 50.00 a roast not really worth it for me and my 10 year old son :) He can pack it back but not that much. The neighbor is raising a holstein steer and I bought half of the little fella but it wont be til summer that we see any moo on our plates. I ate store bought when I lived in Alberta, but the store bought beef in BC is just not right. or if it is good beef it is too expensive to bother with. I slipped into IGA the other day and the stuff in there looked nice. Same with potatoes, I keep buying them in the store and yuck! I'm used to the Alberta ones. They still have flavor.

Grocery store meat is getting difficult for us to buy here too.. I just don't like it that much.. But we kill a steer or two a year (Family gets lots of "gifts" from these animals, a couple lambs, a hog or two and about 50 odd chickens and any venision that we get lucky enough to put in the freezer. Used to put up some geese too but I just can't find the time to hunt them anymore.. Oh, and we have done turkeys as well but not with a lot of success. We did a few dinners this year were the entire meal was prepared /grown on the place... The nephew an d nieces thought that was pretty cool, I wish we did it more often.

Greg and I were getting married in Nov. so gregs family thought it was time the city girl got to help butcher chickens. I had a fairly nice place at a table waiting to pluck my first feather. My back was to the butchering...didn't want to see THAT.All of the sudden I feel something at my feet....a headless chickens running around  A loud scream and off I flew to the house.Yup family STILL laughs about that one.

The guys would just cut the heads off, throw them on the ground and the headless chickens would run around until departed of life.I toughened up real fast when I became part of this "barberic" family that butchered, cut and wrapped ALL thier own meat.

Judith...maybe its all the electric lettuce your poor chickens are inhaling on RCMP burning night :P

All that we know now about Judith, who really believes she got her head stuck in the banister while dusting?? I'm not sure what the real story is but I know one thing, she wasn't dusting cobbwebs.

See I'm off the board for a few hours unloading the hay truck and what do I come back too.... :) Bunch of cheeky buggers :) I have to go, there is a small project I am working on. Apparently I am easily led down the road to naughty behavior!
