Bout 2 years ago, our youngest son brought an unwanted, new-born Jersey cross heifer home from the dairy farm he worked for a while.

Well, yesterday she had a nice (Angus X) black bull calf - he wanted a heifer to start his own cow herd - and is proving herself a fine young momma. Kinda nice to see him take an interest in starting something for himself on the farm.

And did I mention that with a nearly perfect udder that is far more than the baby can handle, I can see the potential for a few custards and other things lining the cupboard before too long? :D (Somebody mentioned elsewhere that hand milking is good for stiff hands - double benefit!)

There you go :D You are now the custodian of Leanin' H's newest herdsire.

Healthy calves of any breed are fun to be around. The spring renewal of life is an awesome feeling. :D :D

I am going to need to see to EPDs on that bull calf before I commit to buying him sight unseen!

Congrats on the new addition. I'd get a couple Holsteins and let her raise them too. But I enjoy misery too.

Now here I thought that was going to read, 'Bout 2 years ago, our youngest son brought an unwanted girl home.' Guess I jumped the gun a bit.

I too just skimmed it to start with, and thought just because the girl was from New Jersey the family was not accepting her very well. My next thought was maybe a little Calf Coaxer would rectify the situation. I apologize for not reading more coherently to start with.

Congratulations on the new bull calf. :-)

Come on, burnt. Pictures, please! :D

of the custard, etc.

Well hayguy, you are going to have to wait for a few days for the custard pics. Right now the milk kinda looks like custard straight from the momma, as I'm sure you can understand. Although a Muslim guy my son worked with said that colostrum made the best puddings.... :gag:

Thanks to the technological wizardry of Big Muddy rancher, we present to you Jill and Phil!

Soo Line Grizzly 9034 Phil! Yup there he is in all his day-old glory, working all four quarters like a pro! He's a long and lean milking machine!

The momma is a fantastical utilization of Brown Swiss, Jersey, a dash of Normandy thrown in for hybrid vigor and while that's not perfect F1 material then it must be close at F2 or 3 or 4! :) And her quiet yet caring demeanor is evidence of a complete absence of EXT breeding!

And the daddy - now this is where 'H will be leanin' right in when he discovers that Soo Line Grizzly, while not scored high for calving ease, is leaving a legacy of pop-em-out babies that hit the straw running and well like I already said can't do anything but gain at a rate so high that the epds are more like EPDsss!

So 'H, you can put your name on him right now or be left in the dust of all those progressive breeders who will beating a path to the door of a humble stable in south-western Ontario CANADA!

Don't be late, this opportunity will only present itself this one time!!!

I think you might call that creation a "Schwartzenbooster" or maybe "Beeftruber" or something like that.

Good looking pair regardless of breeding Burnt.

Some kids of Norweigian (sp) descent that I ran with when younger said their Mom made some concoction from colostrum. The kids called it Mastitis Pudding for it's appearance.

You know, I think that "Schwartzenbooster" tag is kinda appropriate what with the color and all!

How imaginative Gcreek, and thank you very much.

"Calf coaxer"... must have some remarkable qualities... :?

Burnt you ought'a be a semen saleman with a line like that! :D :D As much as I appreciate the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of this once in a lifetime offer, I am sad to say I have to pass.

If Big Muddy and Gcreek think it's a great idea I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole! I am still in financial ruin thanks to their advice about my hunting methods. I may never pay for the combine, swather, potato picker, self-propelled harrow and sprayer they convinced me to buy and use as blinds!

Well I'll be jiggered.

Here I figured you'd jump all over this opportunity to instill some grand maternal instincts in your females and use a bull that would eliminate that high tailhead that afflicts so many herds.

Of course, I'm not sayin' that it's a problem in your herd 'H, but what could it hurt to check?

Maybe you need to unveil your finance program Burnt. :D The no time limit, hidden interest, $58.95, bi-weekly payment plan is something he should really consider. Especially when he finds out about the multinational syndication scheme being "cooked" up.

Ol' H just doesn't know a life changing opportunity when it's staring him in the mug. :D

You would think he could see this opportunity as a way to build cash to fuel his deer blinds.

'H is surely going to rue the day he spurned the offer to become the proud owner of the first of a line of Schwartzenbooster herd-sires. :lol2: (Cuz Phil is going to get the band right shortly :( )

SooLine Grizzly Phil is just exploding into his potential development with more milk than he can handle.

In fact, his momma is proving the house with so much milk, butter, cream, cottage cheese and puddings that we are all beginning to grow into our own full PD's! :? Sorry Hayguy, no pictures since current shutter speeds are to slow to get a picture before the rice pudding disappears!

Not to mention that there is also a Holstein calf getting fed from her, with another to come to deal with the surplus.

And guess who gets to milk her since her proud owner has a broken wrist? Oh well, Life is good. :D Squirt, squirt, squirt...
