Came in from goofin off this morning to this...

That's the disadvantage of living down along the normally scenic Niobrara, plus you have a bit more river humidity with which to contend. It's only 92 degrees here with 15% humidity. I was proud of a first calf heifer that had a calf this morning. She did have the good sense to have her baby in the shade of the windbreak.

Mr. FH has said he's never seen it so warm (hot) in March and he's
OLD. But really, there has been a warm day or two in March
perhaps, but never day after day like this. It was 80 degrees here
yesterday.

The natives here talk about 1988, it got over 100 degrees for several
days in May. That was "THE YEAR OF THE DROUGHT". Nothing grew--
that's the one they talk about. I hope we aren't headed for that again. :shock:
The wind blows one way one day and another direction another day.
I looked at the weather forcast to the middle of April. We have
two days that give 20% chance of moisture and that's all.

Sorry you guys are 90 and 100 degrees already--YIKES!

The sun must have been hitting it a bit, cause it back down to 97 shortly after I took the picture, but its still hot. I took a horse out MAYBE a quater mile to bring in the rest of them, and by the time we got back to the barn he was lathered up. We never got out of a trot, and I was bareback. In perspective..... I was whining that it was cold this time last year.

Meanwhile, we are in the 20's today with snow and wind. What a fickle lady mother nature is!

Rather than complain about the heat Mr. FH could come up and take a shift or two. 1/2 snow last night, 2F this morning and melting with a little breeze at 5:30 PM. Don't think he'll worry about heat until July or so.

Up for 3 hours last night with a couple of heifers and did a C-section for the neighbors during my expected naptime this afternoon.
