No not the kind you carry in yer pocket.

I just came home to stoke the fire as I'm hauling corn syrup from the ethanol plant.Seem's I was driveing a wee bit fast and jackknifed my trailer into the drivers side of my pickup.Needs a new door and some glass now.A couple weeks ago I broke off my ball and it in doing so the trailer made short work of the tailgate. The truck has it's fair share of bumps and bruises and I'm betting they total it out with all the"NEW" aquired damage.I'm not one to turn in a vehicle for damage but this is getting a bit extreme.I think one boxside and one front fender are unblemished.

Sorry to hear that Denny but it could have been worse. As long as the frame is not bent could you fix the pickup with salvage parts and be roadworthy again?

I hear a local junkyard advertising on the radio. Pack a lunch, bring tools, and you can have ALMOST any selected part you need for $59!

I went thru 1 year of auto body many moons ago but I'm quite sure I can fix the cab. The box may get replaced with a balebed already looking for one.Found one in Valetine so I may have to take a trip.

Sorry to hear of your nasty turn of events. How much will you be able to use a bale bed in your kind of winter? Not too much snow for a pickup?

Your luck reminds me of the time I "almost" hooked up to my fifth wheel trailer. I backed into the pin, jumped out, lifted the jackstand, hooked up the brakes and lights, slammed the pickup tailgate shut and took off.

FAST!

Went smoothly for about 1 foot - big thump when the pin gouges into the pickup box floor and then a crunch when the gooseneck turns the tailgate into a big "V"! Also pulled the sides of the box in.

The fifth wheel hadn't locked onto the pin . . .

I've been using the 40,000lb rated balls with 1 3/8 bolt on them. They don't break. If you are using the ones with 1 1/4 bolts make sure they are V-5 rated so you know you are getting good quality. I've got a broken coupler to prove that the good balls will hold.

The ball that broke was a 30,000# 1 1/4 shank it's the first one I've broke but I've seen a few other's.The coupler on the flatbed is the jaw type and it does'nt latch the best and sometime's comes partially open enough that it jerks on the ball.Mine broke when I was stuck and pulling/jerking with a tractor.

The last few years we've had pretty open winter's but about the time I get one I'm sure we'll get alot of snow..Most likely will have to build my own.$9000 is a bit pricey.

There no cheaper here. I've been looking for one also, even a used one, and apparently bale decks are deaf and can't hear anyone talking about the recession, 'cause the prices aren't dropping.

I'll end up building one I'm sure the boss say's I can't spend beyond my mean's.I've got alot of info on balebeds and they show alot of pictures enough that a welder can figure it out..Come on down we'll build 2 of them.

Sorry about your luck Denny, but I'm glad to hear the damage was only cosmetic. It aint a ranch truck 'til the corners are rounded well off. My ole truck has four really nice parallel scratches that run from stem to stern that very closely approximate the spacings of your typical barbed wire fence, a really big dent behind the drivers door that is shaped surprisingly like the back bumper of a blind, tresspassing hunter, a broken d.s. tail light at the end of a dent that looks suspiciously like a mold for a Wal-Mart parking lot cement light stand ..... well the list goes on and on. In fact, the dang thing is nearly broke in and one more payment and its all mine!

I am glad your OK
My heart always STOPS when reading that word....all I can think about is where is Shoer when i figure out he is stopped or at the yard I am ok.
His truck a a wee bit bigger than your pick up and with it being winter
