The calves were up top getting some sun.

Hard to really show how much snow is drifted up.

Coaxing the rest of the calves up top.

Stringing them out to feed.

We call this the Center spring. The water it produces and the runoff from the surrounding hills would be the head waters of the Big Muddy creek. Ends up in the Missouri.

The cows coming in for pellets.

Great pics BMR. It seems interesting that our black cow ranch pic poster from Canada is Muddy and the black cow ranch pic poster from the US is Soap. :???:

I would but he's a lousy gate opener.

Thanks for the tour BMR, how much snow would there be if it wasn't all in the draws? Looks to me like that dog was backing up so you could put the hitch pin in.
Your cattle are looking good. We've had about a week of warm sunny weather and it's supposed to turn cold again on Friday.

BMR, I like photos. I'm getting tired of the cold and snow. Can't wait to see some Spring stuff.
Have you seen the Big Muddy way down South?

Have you seen the Big Muddy way down South?

The hiway pretty much follows it to Culbertson I think, doesn't it?

Yep- until it gets south of Medicine Lake- then it ducks to the west aways and comes out between Ft. Kipp and Culbertson- and into the Missouri...Its the reservations east boundary....Used to know the fellow (BIA Policeman) that lived right there on the Big Muddy by where it cross's the highway- and was there several times....

I have a friend over there North of Culbertson, and I put in a weekend hunting pheasants. He comes over later to hunt Muley's. I have pheasants but he has a lot more. Big Muddy has been flowing pretty slow lately. Used to be they would take water out to fill Homestead Lake, last few years Homestead has been dried up. I guess just like most of the water in that area. They haven't been getting the moisture like Glasgow or Malta the last few years. Last Spring a few times it rained like crazy in town [Malta] while we were there, then drive North 20 miles and dusty dry. You can't see the Big Muddy from the Highway Sout of Medicine Lake but runs pretty much parallel with the highway 2-3 miles to the West. Just a big ditch with muddy water sitting at the bottom.
