Soapweeds right. We couldn't have drawn a better day to move those heifers. It was a picture perfect day to be ahorse-back. With feeding and caking and all our saddles seemed to have gotton a thin layer of dust on them. But yesterday was better than a day in town. Even with Boss #2 getting the chuckwagon stuck such a day kept the crew in good spirits.

Oh Yeah.... She more than made up for that little booble by making us a great lunch for the trail. So here's a poem that sort of discribes one of those trips that only us in this profession can get in on.....

When the Grass Still Holds the Dew
By Marty Blocker

Have you rode out into a morning amongst a cowboy crew?
The air is brisk and crisp and the grass still holds the dew.

Your horse is feeling fresh and strong as you start to leave the ropes.
You walk him out a little ways then you trot out into a lope.

Somebody's colt warms up his back and takes a couple jumps.
It ripples through the others and a couple try to hump.

The cowboys josh and holler as the ponies give a try.
And when the riders get 'em covered we all feel a tinge of pride.

As you shag out into the predawn dark you can hear the slapping tack
You feel the rhythm of the hoof beats as your mount is making tracks.

You hear some fellers laughin' as somebody tells a joke
You catch the flare of a flicked up Bic as someone lights a smoke.

You finally pull up on a high spot and wait for the sun to rise
You listen to the cow-ology from both the foolish and the wise.

They loosen up the cinches, let the ponies catch their wind.
The boss points out the country and the circle soon begins.

Good horses, good men, good cattle, some you curse, some make you boast.
Some will be remembered as legends and others will be just ghosts.

But right now you're proud to be amongst 'em and be part of the cowboy crew.
To have rode out into a morning when the grass still holds the dew.

Saddle Tramp,
Are you going to be at the poetry and music get together next Sunday at the Bowring Ranch?
If so, I hope you will do the Wal-Mart poem again.
See you there! :D :D :D

Yep, ET Doc I guess I'll be at the Bowring doings again this year if things work out. Not sure who else will be there, haven't heard but should be a good time.
