JBS To Buy National AND Smithfield!!!!!!!!!

Red Robin said:
I wish Smithfield would have had enough control to keep the profits in America and not sell to foreign owners.

They could of if they wanted to, but their priorities are their own bank accounts, not whether or not an American company gets the profits. The fact that they willingly took the check while wearing a smile shows a degree of control.

RR, "It's not a very tight control if there's a new player that comes along and in a year is the biggest packer in the nation.

Look at how they got that control - they got out their checkbook. There were no battles, hostile takeovers, turf wars, etc... just some corporate biggies agreeing on a price. Heck, everything has a price - especially in the corporate world. You could own every single blue wang-dang in the world, all 3429 of them - total control and monopoly of the world supply of blue wang-dangs - and somebody could offer you enough money to buy them all. The fact that the new guy now has control doesn't mean you didn't - it just means control was transfered.

Doesn't matter if the names are Armour, Cudahy, Wilson...or Tyson, Cargill, JBS...the fact is your destiny is in the hands of someone else...that is until you sell your own meat or join someone like, Canadian Gold!!!!! It's going to require producers to become proactive and to work at marketing OUR PRODUCT...BEEF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still don't understand what you're getting at, Robin. The big packers here have control, no doubt about it. The names are just changing.
It's not a very tight control if there's a new player that comes along and in a year is the biggest packer in the nation.

HM Capital Partners ( a Dallas, Tx firm) bought Swift last year. They are not in the packing business, they just bought it as an investment.

Along comes JBS and buys them out, along with Smithfield, and NBP.

Control of what? Specifically?

Control of cattle prices paid will be passed along to the new owners with the keys to the office.
