  Riding the Ranger is not the same as riding the range, but I, too have given in. the ranger is comfortable, I admit. I was horseback at branding and scattering to grass. Only times all year.quote="Faster horses"]

Oh well. At least you are still out there riding the range in one form or other. :D
Many people would like to be in your shoes......or your ranger....... :D[/quote]

Faster horses, I may have lowered my standards to ride a Ranger, but at least I still wear boots. :-)

Good to hear from you, Shortgrass. Hope all is well in Colorful Colorado, and that the grass out your way is tall and green. You must be healed up pretty well to be able to be horseback again. That is great news.

Yeah, I am blessed beyond measure to get around like I do. Healed pretty completely. I didn't think it could be as good as it was bad, grasswise, but maybe it is. Feed is plentiful. Cows fat, and calves bloomin and bustin. Life is good.

Just got back from a fifteen mile salt-and-mineral run up through the hills. On the way home, I deviated off course to check out a different windmill. The Ranger just did as I guided it, without feeling dejected that we were no longer going towards the barn. There was no tail switching or sudden lackadaisical attitude like happens with a horse under the same circumstances. A Ranger always acts "fresh," unless of course it stalls clear out. I have had to walk home numerous times through the years, no matter if I started out on a horse (or mule :-) ), or in a motorized vehicle. No system is completely void of problems, but these thoughts did rumble through my noggin as I traveled today.

I am just happy that Soap and Shortgrass are both doing better after what they have been through! Being able to get around is the key regardless of how ya accomplish it! :)
