Anyone read this months Al's Obs?

I have really been amazed by the history lesson I've gotten the last couple of months from Stockman Grass Farmer.

Hey thanks Ben, that reminded me that I haven't seen a GF in a while. My subscription ran out 2 mons ago.  I knew something was missing. Still get acres but it just isn't the same.

AcresUSA always has the soil, biology, chemistry, quantum physics stuff I need for a fix, however, when it comes to grazing and all related topics, Stockman Grassfarmer is by far my favorite. I've really enjoyed Al's Obs the last couple months also. Hard part for me is seeing all these ads and reading all these stories, knowing full well that our damned CFIA won't let alot of these products North of the border. Apparently microbials and natural soil amendments become toxic and evil when they cross into Canada.

I'm wondering if all the stuff is needed when you start reading about the experience people are having with Ultra High Density Holistic Grazing.

Ironicly, I've purchased two products from Alberta in the last 8 months I saw in SGF. I got a Frost Free Nose Pump and a Bow and Arrow MediDart.

It's hard to believe but people ranched for years without all the tonics-some of the stuff advertised has merit but as for the others there's plenty enough Canadian snake oil to invest in. I get a kick out of Allan's preaching about paradims-he has as many as the next guy-my pet one is when he get on his pulpit about Japanese Quarter Horses-golf carts and quads. They are about as unholistic an invention as you can find-they have their place-but they will never replace or be more cost efficient than an American Quarter horse. Never seen a quad lay down and replace itself like a mare does lol. SGF is a good publication but you have to take it with a grain of salt sometimes a large one. The 'Knowledge Rich Ranching' is a good read.

I don't get it anymore. I guess I'm going to do it my way and am not interested in doom and gloom.

I really enjoy reading Allans Obs too but these recent history based ones about the settlement of Mississippi and it's celtic/scotch/irish connections have really shaken my opinion of his knowledge. They contained some absolute howlers of mistakes - my favorite was the quote he said was used in Mississippi which was "more or less a direct translation from Scottish"   It was quite obviously Latin    Besides there is no "Scottish" language - they use English plus of course the Gaelic in days of old in certain parts. When you read something that you know is so obviously wrong it makes you wonder how accurate the rest of their finding are. I still like the publication though - one of the best around and I always learn something from it.

Ben you would be better off on spreading chicken manure then worrying about high density grazing in Maine and other high priced inputs. What qualifies as good pasture is definitely in the eyes of the beholder and location.

I'm not sure what high price inputs I use that you would be referring to, I guess I do buy some hay in, maybe that counts.
