pretty country around Rapid, that's for sure. One of these years, my wife and I will have to get our son out to the Black Hills, I know that i've never forgotten my one and only trip to the Hills (how could I forget when Rapid set a then record for the hottest day ever on record and that's the day we went through the Badlands  )

Today is the 38th anniversary of the 1972 Rapid City flood that killed 238 people. I well remember that morning, as I heard the news of the event while walking through the breakfast chow line in basic training at Fort Ord, California.

Soap I LOVE your pics ....uuummm but could ya PLEASE keep the ones looking down to yourself?????
I almost missed the ones of Sunflower in her new house.
What did she take in college?

I was only six years old and don't remember it too well, but my family was vacationing in the Black Hills and we stayed in Rapid City the night before.

Looks like you caught a break on the windmill and the tail only got one wheel section. Usually it gets them all when that happens. :(

You might want to show your sidekick some of those ring tragedy photo's one more time. Not sure why he would want to risk loosing those fingers but the longer he persists the greater the risk.

Have you ever tried to give a 21-year-old youngster advice? It's like spitting into the wind. :?

I hear you. I have to admit it kind of irritated me to see an intelligent young man being so stupid. :( I hope he figures it out before it causes pain and gnashing of teeth.

I wear my wedding ring everyday. I figure it's there for a reason and should'nt be taken off just for safety's sake.My wedding rings a bit more important than a little safety.

Perhaps the dumbest post ever on ranchers there Dennis. True love, fidelity and faithfulness persevere without a dangerous symbol to represent them. My friends wife just got her ring finger amputated caught it up in a halter shank tying up a pick up horse. Go get a gold ring tattooed around your finger.

I don't wear mine half the time, and don't do no where near the dangerous things other folks do. But I'm still out there doin stuff that it could get caugh up on on occasion. I do wear it, when I go somewhere....(if I remember to put it on)
Mr Lilly hasn't had his on in years. I'd rather him be safe than sorry. Bein a machinist/mechanic the odds are too great that he'd get it caught on somethin to take that chance. We both know who we are married to without the rings attached.

The way I look at it. There were lots of marriages that lasted a lifetime generations ago that never were even able to afford a wedding ring. Yes it's symbol of our love for each other. But that's all it is....a symbol.

That Cabela's store at Rapid is pretty neat and worth stopping in to see. The merchandise they sell seems to be a bit rich for my blood. The only reason I was there was I bought a set of pickup seatcovers because my sister got me a gift cert for my birthday.

But if I had my druthers I'd rather shop at the new TSC down the street aways or at the Motive Parts store that has been in the same area since I was a kid.

Well after your thought provokeing sermon I'll just not comment. I'm working very hard at ignoreing you.

It is a long trip if you stop to photograph every Wall Drug sign along the way...
It is some of the nicest country I've seen though. We had a great family holiday through there a couple of years ago.

When the first Cabela's picture came up I thought it was the one in Kearney before the caption scrolled up. We stopped at the Kearney store when we came through there in '93. An amazing place.

Thanks for the Pictures, Soapweed!!!!

Perhaps the young Groom could take his wedding band to a jewler and have a groove or two cut on the inside of the band, that way if it got hung up on something it would be able to break and save the meat on his finger.

HTH.
