As of Monday, Nebraska added another year to Head Coach Bo Pelini's contract and raised his base pay to $2.1 million, up from $1.85 million. If Bo is still Head Coach on January 31, 2015, he'll collect another half a mill as a retention bonus. Other terms of his contract remain unchanged.
Bo cashed checks for $150,000 for taking the Huskers to the Big 12 title game and another 100K for going to a bowl game. Nebraska, 19-8 in Bo's two seasons as Head Coach, finished this past season at 10-4, their best season since 2003.
Jigs' all-time favorite defensive coordinator Carl Pelini, Bo's brother, received a raise from $208,000 to $375,000, which puts him close to Offensive Coordinator Shawn Watson's salary. Watson received a $5,000 raise on Monday, going from $375,000 to $380,000. Other coaches raises were in the $12,000-$25,000 range.
Jiggsy.....we got in the wrong bidness. But it sure was sweet last week when I asked those Texicans in Dallas just how much Jerry Jones spent to get that one second put back on the clock in the Big 12 title game. You could have heard a pin drop. No comment from the blowhards, and there was over a dozen in that office. Nada. They KNEW who the REAL Big 12 Champeen was!
