I was trapping prairedogs with little traps that were used for muskrats. Went to check one day and had a badger by the back toe. I didn't think I wanted to wrassle with him to turn him loose, so shot him in the head with a 22 pistol. I kept shooting him every once in awhile, for about an hour, before he finally quit breathing. Dang tuff critters.
There are supposedly true accounts of a badger whipping a grizzly bear.
I don't shoot them as they are not a bother around here.
At the neighbors prairedog town, last year, there were 3 different ones who were going around and evidently cleaning up the prairedogs we were shooting. They sure never bothered us and didn't seem to pay us much mind.
By the way, I got to see a mountain lion up between Spearfish and Whitewood the other evening. Kind'a fuzzy and cute. Guy I was with was bemoaning the fact that we didn't have a gun!
