I must say there are a lot of small Hobby guys around my part of the world.......Today I get a call from a friend that I have bought calves for before. He actually feeds these calves at our place...It went something like this....
Him...."Hey, hows it going?"
Me, "Ok"
Him...."Well, I may have talked too much at a Barbeque, but I bought those five calves from the wifes cousin I was tellin you about."
Me..."Oh, good"
Him, "Hey he's also got a young bull they want me to feed for a few months and then they are going to eat him. They have only used him 3 seasons"
Me, "Oh..."
Him..."Anyways, I am going to turn them out into the pasture....When can you help me brand them?"
Me...."Are they weaned?"
Him, "I don't think so"
Me, "Better keep them in the corral for a few days, they'll crawl through the fences otherwise"...At this point I have given up...I have talked to this guy to tell him to make sure calves are preconditioned and weaned before, it falls on deaf ears.....He buys his dad's sorry calves because they "Always screw him at the Sale"... His dad wouldn't know a good mineral program or good bull if it hit him square between the eyes......His dad is always amazed at how well the cattle look after 5 months with us.....
Him, "Ok...What about the bull, where should I put him?"
Me...."The Bull is in the trailer?"
Him, "I think so"
Me..."Well.....he'll tear up te feeder panels, so put him in the coral, get a water tank and feed hm every day"
Him, "OK"
I hang up and realize, "FOREST just became a cattle buyer"
