When my parents were out checking ewes this afternoon, they noticed one girl who looked a little sad. We they caught her, her udder was swollen, and she was limping. They decided to give her some medication, but when they did she had her insides starting to come out her belly. They ran to the house to call the vet, and told him it was an emergency.

When he got here, he stepped out into a mud puddle. He followed us to where the ewe was, and we started setting up for an emergency C-section. My parents told him to save the ewe if he could, so he gave her lots of numbing medicine in her side and then he clipped a big area on her left side. It took a while to get through all her wool. Then he cleaned off the area with Betadine scrub and water, he scrubbed twice and then poured alcohol all over the area. He got out his scalpel and made a 6 inch incision vertically on her side. He reached in and started to feel around for her uterus. When he found it, he started pulling it out. He found the first lamb and slid it out onto the ground where Mom picked it up and started stimulating it to breathe, we did the same with the second and third lambs. They are all boys. We had to give them some Dopram under their tongues to get them to breathe better. While we worked on the lambs, the vet and Dad worked on the ewe. They removed her whole uterus, and stitched her up after putting in lots of penicillin. She also got other meds for pain and antibiotics.

We brought the lambs in to warm them up and start bottle feeding them with colostrum we took from another ewe. The ewe is recovering from her surgery, and we will keep an eye on her all night. Hopefully she won't go into shock.

We had 56 lambs in Jan and Feb, and have had 24 lambs since the 23rd of this month.
