Landis #1 Harness machine

Anyone have any idea on how much a Landis #1 Harness machine is worth in working condition? Its missing the foot pedal drive, but by using the hand crank my uncle churned out many bridles and harnesses on that old machine.

I believe its a 1902 model, but I'm not close to shop to verify that. I don't believe its a late 1800s machine though.

I have a friend in Montana who called me awhile back about a Landis harness sewing machine that he had for sale. He said it was in real good shape. He gave a thousand dollars for it about ten years ago, and wanted a thousand dollars for it again now. He figured depreciation and inflation had probably kept pace with each other the past decade. :wink:
 
No chance of any collectable value on something like that, huh? My Uncle gave it back to my Grandmother, and she just wants to sell it. And being the dutiful grandson that I am, I'm trying to get her as many bucks for it as I can.

They have re-made a new machine based on the old Landis, but I'm not sure which one. Maybe post a picture. Or call some leather workers in your area. Unless you just happen to find someone who really wants that model, you might not get over $500 for it.

I gave $1200 for my brand new Boss Hand stitcher quite a few years ago and wouldn't want anything else. They are still selling for about that price for a new one. Come to think of it, I've never heard of a used one for sale.
 
I have an old Singer Harness Machine, missing the shuttle that the bobbin goes in. Singer wants $499.00 to remanufacture 1 shuttle. Since the machine was given to me...I think I'll just keep lookin for a shuttle.

If I remember right mine's an 1896 model
 
Ah heck, its too bad they're not a collectable item. I was hoping that some crazy New Yorker might cough up big dollars for them. I watch that Antiques Roadshow from time to time, and the dollars they pay for some of that junk are unreal.

She paid $1200 for it many many many moons ago, so if thats all its worth, I'll give her the $1200 for it and keep it around here. I plan to feed with team again someday, and I'm sure I'll need to fix my harness sooner or later.

I recently looked at a Landis #1 in working condition. Lady in Washington state had it. Foot pedal and all she was sellin' it for $1700.http://www.leathercomau.com/ is a website to buy and sell leather and machinery. Rebuilt they are sellin' for $2500 to $3000. I bought a Ferdco 6/6 which is a lot like it with electric motor as well as hand crank.
