Was readin your post about shoeing your own horses, been shoeing longer than I care to remember, but a few years back,I had a wild idea I could get me a kawasakai and get the horses a good home, been regretting than "fine" decision ever since, anyhow not only did I get rid of horses/saddles/tack,let all my shoeing tools walk off  probably would be cheaper to get someone to shoe horses now,but I have a knack for figgerin out the hard way to do stuff,on the other hand kinda nice to go shoppin for "tools" here's what Im using now, except I bought a stand for my anvil, gettin lazy in my old age...........shoed many horses off the tail gate of a pickup.....................good luck

I gotta beak down and get a nice anvil like yours. Mine is home built out of an old rail. Tacking shoes on a horse is WORK! Kinda like pouring concrete...... nothing about it is easy or easy on your body. :D Maybe we oughta both go to work on the Spearhead! No need for shod ponies and lots of H2o from above! Hope ya get rain for a week! :D

Yup,I like this new anvil, its made for shoeing, get you a stand with clamp when you buy one.
I use those disposal tanks of map gas,and keg shoes, sure beats a furnance, and makes you pretty mobile ...............good luck

I been wantin to ask a pretty lady like you, what do yall see in a lanky legged ole bull rider like leanin H :D :D
good luck

Hay Maker, did you put that tread plate around the tailgate or is that a custom job?

I hope you get a good 3 day rain soon. One that's heavy enough to dampen down those slash piles so Elmo doesn't get the urge to toss a match into one again for a while . . . I'd imagine those ribs are still a lil tender from your last escapade.

That's some pretty first class looking equipment there Hay Maker. I bet that anvil set you back a fair bit. I don't believe I've ever seen a new anvil before  At auction sales around here an old blacksmithing 100 lb anvil generally sells for well north of $500, and bigger ones for far more. And I imagine most of them end up with flowers sitting on top of them.
Fortunately we don't generally require shoes on this place either, it's a trade my back would never let me learn. Trimming is a big enough chore for me.

I had the plate put on and had the bed sprayed with that non slip stuff forget what they call it now, ribs are still a tad tender but not enough to slow me down now.................good luck

The little anvil was bought right before everything went crazy price wise,so the p[rice was'nt bad its just a 70 pounder but the turnin cams on the side are a shoers delight, sure wish I could run horses up here without shoes,it is definetly work to keep em shod.
good luck
