Friday morning I will be leaving on a trip with a girlfriend from
California to the Panama Canal. We leave from LA and end
up at Ft. Lauderdale Nov 22. The highlight of the trip for me
will be meeting my one and only cousin (except she has a son)
for dinner on Thursday evening, as I fly to LA on Thursday.

Do any of you have any hints or tips I should know?

I feel like I'm heading off into the wild blue yonder...

Mr. FH is staying here and holding down the fort.

Use a credit card to pay for everything you can, you'll get the best exchange rate. Visa or Mastercard is probably the best to take. Take two and keep them in seperate but safe places, as well as a photocopy of your passport. Take some Pepto Bismol tabs with.....'cause you never know, don't take any expensive or sentimental jewelry with you, mark your luggage so you can easily identify it, have fun and this time post lots of pictures of your trip! Especially Panama.

My wife leaves on a trip for China in another week and a half, she's going along with a group of directors. I hope she has a good time, as well......am just a little apprehensive about this one.

I doubt you take my advice, but since you asked.................
Dont go,few rules I live by and one of them is I dont get high in the sky or deep in the water, like my boots planted on good dirt preferably with a little manure mixed in it for good measure :D
good luck

PS Have fun, becareful and take your camera Im sure there are a few ole geezers here that would love to see you on the beach in that 2 piece bikini.
good luck

Bikini? Not a chance in he77 for that to happen!

Thanks for the rest of the advice tho, and thanks Cal.
I will do what you said, sounds like good advice.
And if any others have advice, don't be shy...

Someone said something about 'bugs'...to wear long-sleeved
shirts and take a hat because they can fall on your head.
About one trip in the jungle with that happening, I'll stay on
the boat. The only hats I have are winter ones...that might look
real silly in the jungle... :P

look into something other than a purse to keep your valuables in -- something that you keep ON YOU.... Keep a copy of your passport separate from your passport -- keep your passport in a VERY safe place...remember that you'll be passing thru airport security, so check with your departure airports for restrictions on what you can have in your carry on bag...don't wear laced shoes!!! lol...

most of all, have fun, stay hydrated with bottled water, both during the flights and during the trip!!!

And yes, take two separate credit cards and keep a copy of both of them in separate places as well or at least the phone number to both of them in case of loss of them. When we traveled abroad, I also notified the individual credit card companies (the ones we intended to use) that we were traveling outside the USA and our dates of travel, where we would be.... That way, if you charge on it, they don't cut you off thinking your card got stolen -- especially if you've never used the card outside the USA.

thanks for the good advice all. (except you TIBBS)

I made copies, now if I can just
keep track of the copies...

Y'all be good...I'll get on here when I can and the hunters from
Washington gave me a new digital camera so I'm taking that along.
And a lady in town that went to Panama in February is going to
loan me a floppy hat...

I'm soooo jealous!!! :D Maybe take some bug spray? I'd also be taking loads of astragalus, echinacea, and goldenseal while I'm gone for sure, works better than Airborne.

Have fun!!! :D

I have euchinacea on hand, but none of the other you mentioned.
I better get some. I'm very lucky in that I have a great immune system. Thanks WR!

Stay safe everyone!!
And I hope my laptop works...so I can check in every now and then.

Gargle with salt water too while you're gone... I'm really not a hypocondriac  , I just HATE getting sick, especially while on vacation.

BTW FH, THANKS A MILLION!!! I think you're onto something with the saddle strings causing dry spots. I can feel them through the sheepskin. I took my saddle out this morning and put it on without a pad/blanket... and guess what??? Yep, the spots line up with that area. Sounds like they can either take them out, or feather them. It's worth a try.

Travel safe, and check in with us when you can!!! :D :D

Have fun. Yeah, that's it, have fun. And don't you think even for one tiny second about all of us poor buggers stuck at home in the mud and the snow. Nope, don't have a moments pause about taking a HOLIDAY while the rest of us poor working stiffs stay behind and SUFFER through the NASTY fall weather, struggling to barely survive another day and miserable LOOOOONG, COOOOLLLLD night. Huddled around our SPUTTERING wood stoves.

Yep, you just go have fun girl.

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

:tiphat:
