Oh what a beautiful calving day today...weather was perfect....heifers were calving great...23 today! This little mama needed and extra hand since the calf had a leg back...so hubby snuck up on her and helped out. I missed the shot of the calf actually out, cause hubby was in a hurry to get out of there, so the heifer would claim her baby..which she did..all ended good today!

Great pictures as always Jassy! I think you might need to put a string on that red cow, shes so big she could pop!

He made that look pretty easy. I expected to see him with his sleeve rolled up, laying down on his stomach, pushing the head back in so he could get the other leg out from underneath.

All is well that ends well, and it looks like your picture story has a happy ending. What a beautiful day was yesterday, especially compared to the two ahead of it. :-)

The leg probably wasn't "back" back; most likely the elbow on the calf was caught up on the pelvic rim.

I know the pictures were showing helping the heifer, but I got a little distracted. Geez, Jassy, couldn't you have taken the pictures from another angle? (Tell your hubby, nice butt! )

I know...I told him that he wasn't in the best position...but I wasn't thinking that I could of moved over..lol

Yur probably right that the leg wasn't clear back...otherwise she would of have to gone to the barn...fortunatly it was an easy fix...this time.

I too feel bad for that red heifer...she's probably just hating her figure about now..lol

[email protected] may luv his job..but not that much to roll around on the ground..lol course that would of made for some fun pictures!

Good thing the cow and calf are okay. Your hubby is pretty handy to have around when there is calvin' trouble. He did that pretty slick.

Talk about ideal calving weather...and it's always nice when things can be fixed "real simple". Good pictures.

A couple weeks ago I snuck up on one that needed a little help, but I took a calving chain with me. Anyway, quickly hooked the chain on just one leg and gave a little tug, then made a loop around my hand for a little better grip....not smart. Didn't think the heifer would (or could) get up quickly...but she did, and dern near jerked my arm off and tore some hide off my hand until the calf, thankfully, came out. Not like I didn't know better. :(

Drove up on one tonight that the cow had had and was licking his butt off . All would be fine but the front half of the calf was still in the water bag. I always wonder when I find a dead one if it died in the bag. I pulled this one off and saved it. I wish they'd start cleaning off the breathing end first. Sorry Shelly, no pictures.

Mrs. Westover, who used to live east of Martin, had that happen one time when she sneaked up behind a milk cow. As I recall, she got dragged around the corral for quite awhile, and was hurt quite extensively from the ordeal.

My thoughts exactly Soapweed. I figured he was doing the belly creep too. That is one thing about dial up internet, it gives you time to think about the captions before the pictures come into view.

Good job Jassy, and husband too! :-)
