Let the fun begin!!

I think Extra might be a candidate for the 'just a bull label'-he'll add frame but not the corresponding muscle. I wish I could find find some Nichols Landmark L56 or Nichols Performa semen up here-they both made cows I could sure live with. I bought the feature cow at my friends herd dispersal in Decemberof 09-she disappeared out of the pasture in early summer-she was 15 or 16 and still producing good calves-bought her to flush but never got a chance to.

I have to agree with you Cory on Extra- just another promoted bull of the month bull...Too big and too powerful in frame and EPD's for me- besides being a negative for fat- which up here in the "Little Siberia" of Montana country is often welcome...He's definitely being highly touted by ABS- and I hear several because of that talking about him- but besides everything else I wonder about his feet.... :???: When even the bullstud openly discounts his legs and feet you have to wonder how bad it really is because of all the trimming and stuff they do to hide it... :???:

As far as Eagle Eye- its about the same... I love to see folks going to Ohlde breeding to get some depth, width, and capacity back in their angus cattle- but he's still too high powered for me... I don't think anyone will be disappointed with most of the Ohlde bloodlines- but to me this matchup is too big of framed and produces daughters too big of framed- something I'm trying to correct after a few years of mistakenly following the "bull of the month" breeding... To me he is more of a terminal bull- because I don't want to be adding a lot of unnecessary frame to the cows...Those bigger cows might work well in the cornfields and fescue pastures- but they don't up here when they graze dried out prairie or have to be supplemented from the haystacks in 2 foot of snow (which luckily we avoided this year).... Those old "efficient type cows" being able to go out and graze thru the winter have definitely made the low input management a lot more profitable this year...

Thanks for everybodies opinion just looking for different ideas for this springs breeding.

If you are looking for "different ideas" how about this guy. He is not in a stud book but here is a link to what he has done.

So where does a guy get a few straws to try him out?
Wouldn't mind finding a good hereford bull in a frozen can I could try out on a few cows to see if I have any luck with baldies.

Heres a newer picture of Cole Creek Cedar Ridge 1V #16134394 that Kevin Dietz e-mailed me...While he is not an ABS bull- This is another bull I'm looking at using on some heifers...Much the same type as Tender Ten...

Again good calving ease, Low BW, a +EN$, +25 Docility, and makes moderate framed cows....He is a Black Cedar son and double bred C H Quantum 6247- which is a bull that I have some daughters and granddaughters of that are making nice cows-- and I'm using a grandson of now...

Oldtimer I have yearling calves out of him I have to see if they make cows before I use much more of him.

Doug I am very tempted to use some hereford on my black cows and I saw your calves last year in Valentine and liked them quite a bit!

Thanks, all 3 calves in Valentine last year were out of the 847 bull pictured. I wish I could make it again this year but me and my neighbor's schedule didn't quite mesh. We share chores when either of us are gone, but we can't both be gone on the same day.
