Morning all over there in the chilly land above. As to the fires yes they have and still are killing wildlife, entire colonies of koala's possums gliders bandicoots etc. They will be years recovering if ever. As I write this 6 fires are still going and 3 are not contained. The human death toll will probably not excede 230 but it will be weeks before its known. The fire was so intense some remains are non existant. On our tv they were talking to a forestry firefighter in Utah. He blames our no fire policy on the fires of today, and thats what we all said. Apolicy of no control burning has led to an horrendous amount of ground fuel. Couple that with 10 days of 40 -46 degree heat 100 kmh winds and a spark, Voila 4th 0f july, big time. Its the uni educated environmentalists from the centre of the city who are to blame. One man in the fire zone was last year fined 30,000 dollars for clearing around his home, on the edge of a town. His is the only house standing. In Q.L.D we still and always have burnt off our laws are more open. But we get summer rain Victoria and lower N.S.W get winter rain and dry summers, then they get hot summer winds off the deserts. As well their trees lose leaves in the winter ours dont up here. So its a mix waiting to happen and the greenies are to blame for some of it. The yank fireman said there policy of extinguishing all fires before they start almost, this for the last hundred years. Is why fires like 1988 yellowstone and this one here are almost the common fire of today, scary. But up her its green feed everywhere and 62 percent of Q.L.D is underwater. Yes up north floods have wiped out hundreds of cattle etc. Because its so flat theres no where dry only an odd island with big mobs of cattle stranded with roo's etc. So eventually they die. One 5 yr old boy was taken by a croc he was playin with his dog in the water near home. The crocs are anywhere and everywhere. However the fires have taken attention away from how serious these floods are. Quite extreme from north to south of the country. One town Karumba has been isolated for 7 wks and expected to be so for another 5. Welcome to sunny bloody Queensland. I live in the guts of the country we got hills. Hope your winter is kind to you all heading toward your spring now. All the best to everyone, Ross
