SH: "Canadian beef should receive a USDA grade stamp because it's graded by USDA."

Are there USDA inspectors in Canada grading the beef? If not, there shouldn't be a USDA stamp!

USDA/FSIS

Equivalence Process
Meat and poultry products exported from another nation must meet all safety standards applied to foods produced in the United States. However, under international law, food regulatory systems in exporting countries may employ sanitary measures that differ from those applied domestically by the importing country. The United States makes determinations of equivalence by evaluating whether foreign food regulatory systems attain the appropriate level of protection provided by our domestic system. Thus, while foreign food regulatory systems need not be identical to the U.S. system, they must employ equivalent sanitary measures that provide the same level of protection against food hazards as is achieved domestically.

Countries wishing to become eligible to export meat or poultry to the United States must contact the FSIS Office of International Affairs at:

Phone: (202) 720-3743
FAX: (202) 690-3856

For more information see the Obtaining Equivalence page.

FSIS evaluates foreign food regulatory systems for equivalence through document reviews, on-site audits, and port-of-entry reinspection of products at the time of importation.

But, Mike, a FSIS inspector is not looking at that product...let them put their "equivalent" stamp on it. USDA inspected/graded stamp should only be used in a USA plant where USDA inspectors are doing the work. INTEGRITY!!!

Is Canadian beef graded by the USDA? Black and white question looking for a "yes" or "no" answer.

It is when it is processed in the USA. But under M cool it would not.

My statement should have read "inspected by USDA" rather than "graded by USDA". I know Canada has their own grading system but I don't know whether USDA regrades it according to our grading system or not.

Take what you can get Sandman cause you certainly don't get much on me.
