Life as a Rancher

I'm 22 born and raised farmin need cattle hogs and crops got 2 brothers with no interest in it. It's no for everyone , if your passionate about it , pursue it , if not go to school get a education and pursue something that makes you happy.

Magungo, if you still have some years of high school left join your local FFA chapter if they have one. I went to college and got a tech. degree. I've forgot more about mechanics than most know. It is more useful to meet people everywhere you go and make connections. The old saying "It's not what you know, it's who you know" holds a lot of truth. If you surround yourself with knowledge you can't help but learn. The kind of knowledge gained from experience, both of your own and others, can not be learned from a book. If you want to be involved in agriculture, be ready to have one of the most fulfilling experiences of your life, also be prepared for a long haul. It's not easy, stay open minded and learn something from everyone, even if it's what not to do.

Ranching is not the most profitable occupation, tho it is the most honorable, usually there is time for hobbies, I manage to get to the big city weekly for Bluegrass jam I like to attend.
And evenings usually find my front porch with a few ole geezers sipping good whiskey and ready to do a lil pickin.
Ranchin aint for everyone and really aint much money in it, more like a way of life that some of us were born into and love.
good luck
