My daughter wants to do a science project for 5th grade that explains EPD's and thier use as a tool for genetic selection of bulls. Just wondered if any of ya'll had information you might share with us as work to put her project together. Always looking for fresh ideas and new information. Our idea is to explain briefly what EPD's are, compare 5 or 10 different bulls by showing thier individual picture and epd's and then rate them for use in our area based on both epd's and eye appeal. Unless some of ya'll point us in a different direction. :D :D Share your idea with the board or PM me please.

We have until the 1st of March but want to get after it here shortly. Thanks! :D

We will share her final project with ya'll through pictures and i will try to talk her into sharing her thoughts when we get it finished.

It might be easier to do one about what causes a mild mannered rancher to become a serial killer and take down various so-called friends from various parts of the nation and Canada!

Wouldn't it be easier for Little H to explain why Daddy's hair is thinning? :? :P

or why Daddy has to stand outside in the fridged cold staring at the computer screen through the window until Mom lets him in :???: :P

H, you might want to check page 58 of the 2013 Select Sires Beef Directory.

Finally, somebody willing to actually helpful! Not that all my other dear friends arent helpful and useful at something, no matter how small and meaningless! :D

Cal Greg, that's some good info and i thank ya much. :tiphat:

I would suggest possible uses for epd's IE bw and CED for heifer bull selection. The Angus.org site has a pretty good explantion for epd's. Remember EPD's are just a tool to be used in reducing the risk of breeding decisions.

Do not know who or what your daughter's teacher is like or what the parents of the other kids are like - but you need to make sure she gets a real good description of a bulls penis and a cows vagina in this somehow.

And be sure she uses great words like semen, sperm count and scrotal circumference.

LOL

Somehow I think you might be getting a call from the teacher!!

Have fun and try to keep your sense of humour. I know I would.

Lordy how I love kids raised with agriculture.

Best to you and good luck to her

the vets kid years ago had a substitute in kindergarten the kids got to ask her questions one asked if she had kids she said hers were grown up and she wasn't having any more. To which the Vet's kid said "then you been spade"

When our neighbor was a little kid in first grade (the same guy who now has the ground loading truck  ), his dad asked how his day had gone. The little kid answered, "Dad, my teacher leaned over, and I could see clear to her withers." :-)
