We helped a friend take a buck out here where we live. It's a limited draw area and he lives in town and other than chasing a lion or two doesn't know the mountain like we do. Always a great time to be outdoors and looking for deer. This buck isn't a giant but he was over the moon happy and that's what counts. Littlest H spotted the buck and got the hunter right where he needed to be for a clean one shot kill. Proud of him

So that was part 1. Part 2 was helping the first hunters dad get his own buck. After he tagged out the first guy had to leave for work. His 70 year old dad still had a tag to fill. So we stepped up to help. Had a blast and looked over a lot of deer. Finally found the one he wanted and with one more well placed shot his hunt was over too. It's been a lot of fun lending a hand. Littlest H and I have sure enjoyed it

My son brought his business/hunting partner and family with him to hunt. Partner's first mule deer and his wife's first deer. While Dave's guide service worked out for them my son made a science out of missing deer. He missed 6 good bucks over 8 days. He ended up shooting a little spike up on the hill behind the house late on the evening before they went home. Missed the good ones but hit the spike?

Doesn't look like a baler was involved either. Well done H, I doubt I have ever seen deer with that size racks here.
You have to be somewhere near the line between Columbia blacktails and Sitka blacktails. Neither one is anywhere near a mule deer for body or horn size.

We have mulies and blacktails here. Wolves and unregulated hunters don't let many of them get that old. A short 20 years ago it was nothing to count 300 to 400 deer on a four hour trip to town. I saw 8 last Wednesday night.

Here and up in Washington it was when the bleeding hearts out law hound hunting for cougars. The cougar population exploded and deer population dropped. I wonder if there is a connection?
