I came across this interesting picture of a longhorn brahman cross.

I would like to try to reproduce this for fun and possibly an intersting head mount. However I have been told that some brahman are polled and some horned. And that the polled gene is dominant. My question is should I try to find a horned brahman or would it be ok to used a polled brahman. It seems that unhorned brahman are easier to find in my area, however I don't know if they are polled or have just been dehorned. The accompanying article says they used brahman bulls on longhorn cows. I already have longhorn bulls so I plan to purchase a brahman heifer and use him. Just a little experiment, but I thought I'd see what ya'll knew about it. Thanks for any information you have to offer.

doesnt look any different from a full blooded brahma to me,down here there are lots of wild cows on some of the bigger ranches, they grow some pretty impressive horns, especially when they pop out of the palmettos right under your horse.

Most of the brahman around here have the long ears and a much, much shorter horn. I have seen pictures of gir that look very similar to this picture but they are very had to find in my area. I hear ya about the wild ones that seem to come out from underneath ya. But I think for this project i'm gonna look for a pet. Mama (aka boss lady or the missus) just keeps tellin my about how I love wasting money on my "little projects".

I am leaseing 30 1/2 Highlander cross cows they got mixed in with our Reg.AI cows the day before we bred them well when sorting the next day one was in heat the guys helping said I should breed her Longhorn.I replied NO but if you have some Brahma I will get her in WELL he did so we bred her the cow is 1/2 hereford also should make a goofy cross anyhow.

hello C-E and all,
I came across this thread (four years later) and I'm wondering how your project turned out. Any pictures to post? I took a few minutes to Google Indian and African cattle before posting and the [very nice] mount you linked to looks similar to images of Guzerat cattle.
I hope everyone is still around and doing well.

I see a lot of similar animals down here, though the horns do tend to be a bit shorter.

Funny how you found this. :D

Yes it would be neat to see how this turned out.

I had a Watusi x longhorn cross bull that was excellent on Hfrs. Good calves as well.

I think maybe we are all still here except for Judith and maybe and Flrooster. :D

Been real busy and almost missed this post. Shortly after I made this original post we made several changes including a move and career change. Spending 70 hours a week in a truck has left me little time to pursue my little projects but I do still have my longhorn bull around and would still like to try it sometime.
