tell me what you think.
Click on the other links for Californios. What do you think of that Californios show? I think its a good idea. Its not an aged event. Great way to drum up interest in ranch horses. Sounds more practical than Reined Cow Horse.
Hey if you could take part in this type of show, would you?
I wonder what it would take to get something like this going in other areas?
They actually have a ranch horse show out at the bar u every year. But to enter you have to enter as a team. Example each ranch has 4 or 5 of its riders to a team. The problem is that there are only less than a dozen ranches around that are big enough to employ 5 riders.

The ranch rodeos are made up of teams, but the smaller outfits still put in teams, even though they don't have five full time employees. They must get in as using them for day help or something. I've never checked the rules on qualifications. As for the Californios, reined cow horse is an element of the competition, and the rest sounds much like the ranch roping competitions we have here now, minus the bull roping. I'd like to watch the Californios competition for sure, but it would have to be on TV, because I'm not striking off for California any time soon.

Well then thats two of us already  Now if we can get Judith and Faster Horses to join us we will be all set for this summer at the bar u :D
About Californios, according to their web site they are roping bulls. Apparently the bulls are roped in the finals.
My impression<just from what I have read> is that the fence work differs from RCH because its not about speed, plus they rope, tie off to their horse and doctor the steer at the end of the run.
Last year the AQHA magazine had quite a write up on them. It sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to show your horses.

Roper, with my roping skills, or lack thereof, you'd be hard put to compete I'm afraid! Then of course there is the nerves that make me sick before going in the arena, something I avoid doing for that very reason.
