Lookin' at bucks

My fencing project is still going alright. Broke the post pounder thanks to the granite boulders. The best part of being out there is sneakin' out most every evening to scout for deer. I hiked into the Death Flats last week. Named when they had a bad spring years ago and the loco weed killed 20 head of cows before they got them moved. Looking out at the desert.

Looking at the rough hollow skyline. Many a big ol' buck has cruised those ledges and mahogany trees. Before the big fire in '94 it was thicker and harder to hunt.

We had a scattered little shower while i was gawking at bucks. Sure made a pretty rainbow. Stretched from the death flats to...........

To the black peak in sheeprock!

Now for some deer! Looking across Cottonwood at some bucks through my spotting scope.

The best buck was this 26" four point. Maybe a last day of the hunt buck. Fun to look at on a cool summer evening!

pics of muley bucks....you certainly have my attention :lol: those bucks look like potential wall hangers. is that land yours, public, or private? either way, beautiful country, and great pics. you proved packin' a camera is never a wasted motion :wink:

Ain't having this hunting addiction really irritating? NOT! Those bucks are on good ol' public land. When ya coming out to hunt with me?

i'd love to come huntin' with ya H. that looks like fun country to hunt regardless if ya pull the trigger or not. does your public hunting get lots of pressure? most of the public land around here gets swamped with hunters, almost to the point of being unsafe. and because of it, the big bucks are all on private land and stay there. i guess i would do the same.

He'll be good in a couple years for sure-sara and I got drawn into one of those earn a buck deals up here. we have to shoot two does to get a buck tag. Sask. Enviroment is doing their best to screw up our good hunting we have-if the deer look thiunned out we'll probably just eat our tags. Leanin' H you should get a subscription to Big Buck Magazine absolutely the best magazine for hunting stories and its produced and printed right here in old Saskatchewan by a fanatic deer hunter. Most other mags are just full of articles by 'pros' shilling the lastest calbre/bullet/camo/optics etc Personally I think Camo is the most overated hunting tool there is-I've gotten within ten yards of big bucks alot of times wearing blaze orange from head to toe lol. Ty saw a booner whitie here the other day with double drops-its tearing him up that he has to go south before he can hunt him lol.

Justin, this area is a limited draw unit and receives mild to moderate pressure. I've been hunting and guiding here for my lifetime. Kinda know where to be and what the bucks will do when they get bumped. If you ever really get the itch to head west get in touch with me and I can point ya in the right directions to apply. I think i know a guy who'd love to let ya stay in his camp and show ya 40 head of bucks a day. Wouldn't cost ya a nickle as long as you keep your bulldoggin' problem under wraps! :wink: Although, we might come to hate each other if we had to spend much time together!

Northern, I buy a copy of Big Buck Mag. every time I see it at a news stand. Great magazine with some awesome bucks. Tell Ty to concentrate on school and the American culture shock and covering stock. I'd be happy to keep tabs on that ol' double drop whitey. And Ty could come visit "His buck" any time he wanted to. I'd keep him safe and sound right out here on my family room wall! :wink: I agree about the camo...... When the wind hits your neck it's all over. You could be i a ziplock bag full of doe-in-heat and your still toast!

He's taking his bow south I guess he can buy a Montana resident tag as long as he goes to Montana State-maybe Dad will have to spank that double drop.

if the boy can't go after the double drop tine buck, that means you are next in line, right?

Probably I'll try and get one of my daughters on him-I don't really hunt much myself any more till the kids get something good.

We've got Bear tags here my 15 year old daughter myself and my Genex rep. We can start baiting on Saturday season opens on Sept 1st any luck and it will be over shortly after. I had a 350# bear cross the road off my property yesterday while I was baleing hay a nice one for the daughter. I like baiting more than hunting to me it's a great feeling getting them hooked on candy. Were going to put up trail cameras this year should be interesting.

Our bear don't hit baits as good in the fall but they are fun to watch over one for sure. Calling bear in is about as good as it gets.

Bow season for elk starts here the 5th of Sept-- and the SIL drew an either sex tag in the area just south of me in the Missouri Breaks...Good area I've hunted before with a bow....

He's going to have my hay stack shot up practicing :wink: :lol: Only thing bad is the long range forecast says temps in the mid 80's for the starting days.... :shock:

We get an open season on antlerless from sept 15 to oct 31, so no one has an excuse for coming up empty handed around these parts. Bulls need only have 3 points and up.
We've had upwards of 100 at a time in the hayfields this summer although hunters will start setting up camps and scouting in the next few days and that will disrupt all the usual patterns.
